Does anyone have any similar problems with clutch failure on these cars?

Yesterday my front suspension spring snapped and I have just picked the car up to drive home and the cutch has just failed, luckily pulling into my drive.

So to date things that have broken on this car:-

Rear wheel bearing - both rear bearings replaced
Exhaust valve
Front suspension spring - replaced both front suspension today

Clutch failed - have to phone garage in morning

All on warranty but I'll find out tomorrow re: clutch.

I would be interested to find out other issues from the same car and year.

The car looks good, the equipment is good but it seems it is only skin deep - mechanically it lives up to the old reputation...

I drive the car normally and don't rest my foot on the pedal.

Sorry to hear about the trouble. I really cant complain about the reliability of mine. Its now got 23k on it 20k with the remap and about 10k with the coilovers. No problems with the clutch or anything else mechanical :D. How many miles is on your car?

could be a gearbox leak contaminating your clutch, common problem with hydraulic clutches.

my mk1 punto, mk2 punto, stilo and both my alfas and my mums alfa and her focus have all had this problem:(

but all this will be is speculation until you go to the garage, thank your lucky stars its under warrenty

Yes well I'll find out tomorrow and update for future forum members........

How did it fail? Is it still useable?

It sounds a sudden and therefore more likely to be a mechanical failure rather than wear and tear.

Warranty claims for clutch failure are notoriously tricky, so be prepared for an argument

If it is in their opinion its wear and tear they will argue that is not covered by the warranty

Good luck

It seems there is a burst pipe between the clutch master and slave cylinder. Garage has never seen this before apparently. Still ongoing, cost £40 just to get the car recovered to the garage.

It was a sudden failure, pulling into my drive and changing gear the pedal just hit the bulk head and stayed there. Car stalled and unusable, thing was if that had happened in the grid lock motorway I come home on it would have been chaos, every cloud I suppose..

Find out more tomorrow. Oh the car has done 25K miles.

thats a premature failure of something that shouldnt, not in that time scale, i.e not wear and tear, though they will try and argue this.

dont back down(y)

Mine is similar with 17.5k miles on the clock, driven sensibly and front left spring broke a couple of weeks ago, Fiat only replaced the one spring though even when I challenged it. Clutch does sound more like failure than wear and tear but I agree it could be difficult to get them to warrant it. On the older sporting it wqas the gearbox housing that broke when too enthusiastic on moving off from rest!

Well would you believe it the garage has been fantastic. As mentioned they replaced everything on warranty and managed to do the same for the burst pipe.

So the whole episode cost me £40 (to get the recovery lorry to take it to the garage) and some hassle but the rest was free.

Happy days.

great to hear a warranty story with a happy ending for a change :)

Cant argue, my warranty work has all been done. Hate to think how much my replacement turbo cost to replace!!! or the rear brake caliper, or sorting out the intercooler pipe. I have kinda forgotton that the light around the ciggarette lighter has stopped working.

Oh another thing that had to be replaced a while ago was the power assisted steering motor. Quality cars these fiats!!
