Hi there guys,
Not new to the forum, but new under this username (used to be blackburnsei).

Am now the proud owner of a 1.9mjet, red with while Linea Stripes.

Anyhow, im just wondering, (and ive searched around a bit and not found too much) but have many sporting owners struggled with starting the engine from cold in the mornings, (even after letting the plugs warm and fuel pump prime).

occasionally the actual start is met with a nice white cloud out the back too.

Any advice or guidance appreciated.

Alex

hi mate.... ive had this problem aswell! Initally when i took it back they changed the lambda/o2 sensor, it seemed to help but didnt resolve the problem completey! So back to the garage again and they say there was a slight crack in the inlet manifold, so this was replaced and has made cold starts alot easier. Though she still splutters every now and then, but they guys on here reassured me that just what a diesel is like. I was use to my petrol turning over instantly on the turn of the key.

I used to and still every now and then get a white cloud from the exhaust, but have been told this is normal and usually is more apparent on cold starts on cold days is the fuel evaporating in the air.

hope it helps... let us know how you get on if you take it back to the garage, would be intrested to see if they do anything from mine?

Mine is the same, I am going to take it to look at. In the morning I wait for the glow plugs to go out, and the fuel pump to make its noise, and it still turns over several times, then starts in a big cloud of white smoke. Its fine when warm.

let us know how you get on, yeah mines the same! Starts no problems at all when warm.. i also wait for the glow plug sign to go out, etc.. much better since they done said work above! But still not convinced

Took it in and mentioned the "High Coolant" temp warning that comes on when i start occasionally.

They say the two could be related, maybe a sensor so there gonna book me in next week for a look.

snap, i still get that aswell! Although i took it in once for that! If you look at the top of the tech section, under recalls its a common problem and is just a software update although they did the update on mine and when it dont wana start it blurts that out again! Keeps us update im intreged to see what they do for ya!

The main difference lies in the ignition.

Petrol is sparked by an... er... spark, whereas diesel is ignited by pressure. I too was frustrated by the fact that a diesel engine doesn't immiediatley turn over.

I have found that, if you wait for all the warning/status lights to go on then off again (around four will stay on.. f00k knows what they are) it should start.

I was getting the cloud of smoke and also it took several tries to start, but this have remedied it...

If you still have a problem, chain yourself to the dealers doors until he fixes it! (y)
