Only found out about this when reading through the manual last night. Going to go out and try it today and was just wondering what exactly it does.If your on a fairly steep hill, place it in first, foot on brake and on the clutch, the car then wont roll back/brake wont be released until there is enough power to move the car? Is it there to be used instead of the handbrake or what?

cheers

on a hill, irrespective of how steep, hillholder will keep the car still for about 2 seconds, giving you enough time to set the gas/accelerator with sufficient power to sat off on the hill and find your bite point, after 2 seconds it will release and if you haven't got bite point and set enough gas/power,it will start to roll backwards down the hill,i hope this helps, john

I dont think mine has it as mine doesnt have ESP. Correct me if im wrong but you need ESP right?

According to recent Fiat literature, only Sportings have it in the UK, although I am pretty sure that I have read that certain 1.3MJ models have had it in the past.

I have it on my M-Jet 120 Elegenza, I didnt know I did until I looked in the handbook to see why it 'clicked' when I was reversing on my drive which is steep. You can also hear it 'beeping' when its engaged, like an electronic whine noise. Useful I like it.

3011,no its not on the dvla's banned list for driving tests,i've been using mine for tests for nearly two years now,its not a hand brake, the handbrake is there as well,I don't even tell my pupils about it so they use the handbrake as normal,I explained this to the examiners ,they were happy with the situation.
