Hi all,

just been browsing through your forum and i'm glad to say it's packed with good information.

my fiancee is looking for a new motor and we decided to pop into our local fiat dealership to look at the grande punto as it looks like a nice bit of kit.

personally, i really like the panda 100 hp and was even more smitten with it after having a good look around it and then taking it for a test drive. it's a great bit of kit, with bags of character and real fun to drive. unfortunately my fiancee isn't as keen on it as me, so we're sticking to look at GPs.

i test drove a 1.4 16v Active Sport and also a 1.4 8v Eleganza. We're not looking to get an Active Sport but he had one there and really it was the drivce that i was looking at.

I'm a bit miffed on the benefits of the 16v over the 8v, according to the catalogue (i may have this wrong) but there is almost 20bhp difference between the two, yet when i drove them they felt the same. now i'm not expecting 20bhp to make the world of difference but i thought there would be some. could it be down to the gearing? both the cars i test drove were 5 speed, are the Dynamic Sport models not 6 speed and thus make it a little more rapid??

Also can't make my mind up on whether we should got for the eleganza or the dynamic sport, personally i think the eleganza is much better equipped even though you lose the front fog and rear spoiler. the dual climate, arm-rest, electric lumbar support, usb connection and the rear parking sensors really make up for it, and if i really wanted to i'm sure i could retrofit the fogs and the rear spoiler.

is there any difference in the suspension between the dynamic sport and the eleganza, the salesman said there wasn't but i thought i might aswell ask for confirmation.

do any eleganza's come with a 16v engine, or are they all 8v?

and finally, what is with that baby blue/black cloth interior with matching pale blue dashboard!?!? really don't like it.....but others may think otherwise so i don't want to insult anyones car.

anyway, i think that's about all for now, any information on any of the above two models regarding reliability etc would be much appreciated.

go for the panda 100hp far better than a active sport or eleganza gp to drive and you get more kit for your money/its that simple also may i add tha panda 100hp looks stunning in white or black/my girlfreind has one its mint(y)

ps i have gp sporting 1.9 sporting and thats the only grande punto model i would choose over the panda 100hp and its the on gp thats faster than the panda 100hp.:)

Think the eleganza only comes in 5 door so not sure if that will influence your decision. I don't know about the petrol engines but they did do the 1.9 diesel for the eleganza so I would consider that for a bit of performance (not sure if six speed)
Personally i'd go for the panda 100bhp or the grande punto sporting (£600) as your not paying that much more but are getting alot more. Obviously it depends if you want finance etc but you can get very good deals on the 1.4 sporting, seen them for £9100 on driveadeal.com and you can use this price to knock the dealer down. Thats more than £2k off list.

You also get nicer seats and dash in the sporting

Hope this helps

you're preaching to the converted mate.....i absolutely love the panda 100hp, it's got some real poke and it sounds pretty tasty too. handles like a little go-kart aswell, was really impressed with it on the test drive. plus, the BlueMe, dual climate and the skydome really makes it a great little car for not much money. i'd have one as my car, i love it...it's got bags of character and is really querky.

but it's the fiancee's decision and if she's not convinced then i'm not going to force it on her.

am i wrong referring to the dynamic sport as such?? just confused because you referred to the active sport - but these being discontinued??

it has to be a 5 door....as we'll be planning to keep it for a good while and i think babies will be along in the next couple of years.

not looking for a lightning performance, as my fiancee is driving around in a 1.0 corsa at the moment, so anything is an improvement.

cheers for the input

least if you buy a sporting (petrol or diesel) you get six speed, sports suspension, blue and me and other features such as hillholder. Think the insurance group is the same as the dynamic sport as well.
Get your misses to drive the panda if she hasn't, might make her change her mind.

i told her to drive all three that i test drove today, but she was nervous driving them. i think she got a bit spooked by the signature required next to "i agree to pay £400 excess in the event of an accident".

can you get the sporting in 5 door variety?

Hi
Don't think you can get the sporting in 5 door yet. Think you might be able to get the new turbo sporting in five door in the future but then your talking high insurance and probably not that practical.
If you need five door i'd definitely get the panda if you can persuade her if not the eleganza as it has the extra comfort and features, you can pick up nearly new models for good prices and there is the option of the 1.9 diesel.

although the new turbo sporting does sound very appealing i think it's alot more powerful than what she needs, and as you say, insurance is going to be alot higher.

even the 1.9 diesel is probably more than she requires, and it'll be a higher tax bracket aswell.

the more she reads these responses the more she is coming round to the idea of the panda! still holding out hope for it.

1.9 Grande end of fella.

When I bought mine I was only tooooo aware the missus was after a kiddiewinkle. Still got the 1.9 lol, now my missus is 5 months preggers! Am I worried Nooooooooo. Loads of room!(y)

Would not touch the petrol models after driving the 1.9. They are so slow in comparison its almost painful!

Your really going to struggle to get an answer on here, lol.

Everyone likes what they drive so they will recommend what they have. I have the 1.9 Sporting and its a great car, but its not for her. I would go for the Eleganza if you were going to have a GP, 5 doors and loads of extras, you cant go wrong.

As for the Panda 100hp, its a great car without a doubt and she may even find it easier to drive because the GP is a very big car, especially coming from a Corsa, i definately think she should drive one.

Hi

I have a MY07 1.4 Eleganza 5 dr check out my pictures posted on here somewehere or email me [email protected] and I will mail you some.

The 5 door 8v eleganza is superb I absolutely love it and had no problems other than a slightly sticky rear drivers door s(sometimes takes 2 goes to open) I find the extra plushness of the upholstery and all the extras such as dual zone climate parking sensors etc well worth it. If you are a bit sporty inclined then go for the sporting if you want a well specced ffor £10,500 car then go for the Eleganza I love mine

:) :) :) :) :) :) :)

problem with the eleganza is?you cant tell the difference between it and a dynamic unless you sit in it.the eleganza should stand out more than the dynamic for that kinda money:(

I agree with that. Although if you want to stand out you buy the Sporting so maybe that isnt an issue for some people.

I got the 1.4 Sporting - fairly low insurance group (6 I think) - but only in 3-door.

6 speed gear box is good but tbh, my missus is insured on it and I doubt she's go near 6th!

I might as well add my two pennerth if it helps you decide and tell you that the Dynamic Sport DOES come with parking sensors. Oh, and 6 gears as well

As has already been said, everyone loves their own G.P. :)
