Technical 1st Service time

Technical 1st Service time

yup its whatever comes 1st.so if you hit the mileage then its due a service but if you dont and 1 year comes round then its due

I know I am fussy about oil changes but I ignore the handbook when it comes to changing oil and change it at 4000 miles maximum and use the best oil I can find, usually Mobil 1 but anything else to Mercedes Benz 229.5 oil specification.

I have 3 cars, a Saab 900, with 90,000, a renault 172 track day car with 80,000 race miles and a renault Clio diesel with 102,000 and the wife has a 1.3 multijet, 1 year old and 6000 miles. All have had the same oil change management and none use a drop of oil, no smoke, and I hope the cars will last me for a long time yet.

You may have read of the Saab in America that did 1,000,000 on the original engine. The driver followed the same routine, oil change using Mobil at 4000. saab just gave him a new Saab 9.5 for the good PR.

If you are going to keep your GP for a year or two, then sell on then you are wasting your time in changing the oil early, I dont, I just keep them running so I keep the oil clean and fresh.

Just got a quote for my cars 1st service. Its done over 9000 miles so its the full service it needs. £234! for a 1.4 sporting. im gonna try vauxhall Ive heard they do servicing cheaper

1st Service Due

The Service is now due on the missus GP Active Sport.

Quote from dealer £195

Spoke to local garage and was told to get a first service pack £40 and they would do it for about £50 as it was only iol and spark plugs :D

How can dealers get away with this!!

Also I am assuming that everything will be in this kit, is this the case?

Re: 1st Service Due

yep, should be the case mate... it was with my suzuki, and i did that myself.

make sure the garage is VAT registered and they stamp the book though otherwise FIAT could void your warranty. :)

Re: 1st Service Due

If you speak to a franchise dealership they will tell you that they charge considerably more because of their over heads, and when you have a service done there, they only use Genuine fiat parts, and everything they do is covered with a warranty.

I begrudge paying 4 times as much at a dealership. Their should be some measures in place to stop over pricing to such an extent, as they are losing huge amounts of custom because of this.

I can sort of sympathise with the dealerships as they do have HUGE overheads. But so do some smaller garages, and they give people a good price.

...because local garage wont be able to update your cars software, reset your service light, carry out any outstanding recalls & will be unaware in general of the GP as its a new model compared to a GP trained tech.

Seems crazy spending £7-11K on a car yet look to save a few quid on its upkeep:confused: .

I've never thought of having mine serviced anywhere else but at my dealer - don't think there are many people here that are trained/have the equipment to service it properly.. plus there's the warranty that I don't want void.

Re: 1st Service Due

Best thing to do it shop around for servicing prices, just ring a load of dealers near your location and find the best price then go back to your local dealer and haggle it...

My mate found it with the 2 fiat garages in Reading, summit like £70-80 difference in there servicing prices on a 1.2 active mk2b punto...

Re: 1st Service Due

T T T T!!! lol

I spoke to the dealer today and said about the vent thing and that you dont have to take the dash out, he said its down as a 3 and half hour job on the system which would immply it is. Said i knew a tec guy whose changed plenty of them with out taking the dash out and he said would he be able to contact this tec guy to ask about it.. .

So would you do me a huge favour and speak to him?
Thanks

Mr Bob

I must admit I am with you on Mobil 1. every car i've owned (except my mini) has run on the stuff, if you ever need to get inside the engine for any reason i looks as though it has been gold plated, the oil just clings to everthing it is fantastic stuff. Once the GP comes out of warrenty it will be running on it too (the diesel varient of course)

BTW just booked the GP (1.3 MJ 90) in for it's first service 12 months and 13,500 miles been quoted £162.50 that's 3 times what it would cost me to do it myself  but i suppose that is the price of a warrenty

Servicing?

I'm driving to Roma and back in June for 2 weeks... just wondered if it is worth getting my car serviced? I've done nearly 11,000 miles since Sept 06.
Its a Grande Punto Sporting 1.9 M-Jet 3 door.

During my 2 weeks Road trip, I'd expect to do aroundabout 2500-3000miles (roughly?!)

Do you think its worth it? And would the dealership allow it?! Just want the peace of mind that my car has been fully checked over before going to try to prevent any possible malfunctions... I have all the faith in my M-Jet Engine in terms of reliability but just wanna ensure everything goes smoothly..

Btw I haven't done a thing to my car since new.... i.e oil change or even checked my oil etc..

Re: Servicing?

I thought the manual recommends an oil/oil filter change at 15000km (~9300mi)?
