These are the type of clips your are now confronted with on the breather hose (i removed mine a while ago so a pic of one on the Radiator bottle will have to suffice to show you what you are up against.....

i just nipped mine with the end cutters till they released

like this

but you can use the correct pliers if you want to re use them (i just used Jublie clips (worm drive hose clamps when i refitted makes it simpler to clean out at a later date and to change the air filter just undo one and whip the lot off)

then pull the hose off each end and replace in reverse order (i found it easier to fit to the air box first then to the rocker box top) when tightening jublie clips dont over tighten on the plastic spigot on the air box as you can break it just nip it up enough to stop the hose from pulling off

DO NOT FORGET to put the small breather back on the air box when re fitting

Just to say.I have just changed the oil breather pipe (I was praying there was a hole in it) the hole was 3 inches long and the pipe had completely collapsed. It took me about 20 mins.So a big thanks to everyone especially.

Where does the small breather Pipe go to ? I have it connected to the air box but it's just hanging down back of engine? Not Plugged onto anything!

Re: Breather hose replacement 1.2 & 1.4 8v

Hi all,
This is my first post on this forum...

My girlfriend has a Grande Punto 1.2 on a 57 plate. I recently did a bit of a mini service (plugs/filter etc) and noticed the breather pipes were split.
I have replaced the larger breather pipe with no problems at all but need to replace the smaller pipe at the back (have taped it up for the short term).

I know it just simply pulls off the air box but cant see how detatches at the other end?? (from the bottom of the "inlet manifold") Does it just pull off too or is there some kind of clip that I cant feel?
Also, would a silicon vacuum pipe with a 5mm hole be ok to use for this?

Thanks in advance,
J

Thanks T14086, I tried to pull it off but it didn't seem to want to budge?!
I thought I heard somewhere about letting it warm up a bit first, so after a run out in it I tried pulling it off then.... It popped off with no problems!
I guess the heat helped somehow?!

The silicone pipe works a treat too. I paid about 4 off Ebay (delivered), it just slid straight on with no probs and now runs really nice.

Re: Breather hose replacement 1.2 & 1.4 8v

Hello,
I change my stock air filter with a K&N 57i Series Induction Kits (57-0655), and the installation guide tells me that I must block the air breather hose (not oil breather hose, it is a very narrow rubber hose, under air filter). It is ok or wrong to do that? What is the meaning of air breather hose?

Re: Breather hose replacement 1.2 & 1.4 8v

great guide andy. just one question. I did this today on my 1.4 8v GP, but couldn't find where to put the flame trap. after a bit of reading, it seems i should've inserted it into the breather pipe? is this correct, and if so, which end does it goes in to?

Angry Re: Breather hose replacement 1.2 & 1.4 8v

Great guide and advice guys ,,I had this problem when my GP was 8 mths old ,under warranty so took it to my local dealer. First visit got the usual excuse that they would have order the parts. Two weeks later finally got it booked in to do the work (didn't ask the cause ,the petrol smell stopped and I'm no mechanic so was happy) now 18 mths on, petrol smell back and have just looked behind the air filter to find a cracked breather pipe with 6 inches(and I'm being generous with that) of red insulating tape wrapped round it...

So thanks again for the guide I'll do it myself this time
