You need Halflife 2 - which I believe gives you free counterstrike:source. I bet you could pick up one very cheap from Amazon. Buy new though or some nasty person may have registered your CD-key.

As for getting source. You need to download steam first (free), then you can buy counterstrike source (and other games if you so wish). Steam then downloads the game and you can play.
If you think steam is good - imagine all the trouble we had with it when it was first implemented.
