Hi, I have already got a set of coilovers on my car but I have dropped them to the max they can go but I want to go lower now but unfortunealty I dont have the money for a whole new set of coilovers so I was wondering if I could just get a set of springs and change them but keep the coilvers on???

Thanks Kirsty x

what sort of coilovers did you get? did the rear include coily specific shocks? it could be that if you are on standard shocks, thats whats stopping it drop further

just thinking about what av read on the vw forums, is there a little spring and a big spring? Some remove the little spring to lower the car further, but it needs to be put back in before the MOT

i have the little spring you are speaking about and its called a helper spring its just there to make the ride smoother instead of the rough coilover feel everyone hates :D and it doesnt make the difference in height that much as i can stil go down further with the helper spring and my wheel is in line with my arches

are you sure they are coilovers on the car and are they fully wound down for the height you desire :)

pics if possible helps a lot :D

no they are really soft and when they are on the car they compress fully to about an inch in height but when you remove them all you do is wind the coil back up an inch then it all sits the same as before but harder at the fronts than before but basically they slow the compression of the front shock a bit :D ive got to fix my rears so ill post a piccy of the fronts sometime and show you :)

i get what he means. not all coilies go really low. mine wont go past 80mmm. others go 110+mm so i think what yo need fella is another coilover shock with more threads to allow a lower drop

Hey ye its defo coilys I have wound them down to the max they will go but they only drop 65mm :(

ermmm... think there is some pics of it on here already at the Glasgow meet not to sure if they a clear enough to see what I am on about lol
I am the bright yellow car haha :)

Gallery's not up yet, so can't unfortunately illustrate with that at the mo :/ From memory it did indeed look a little lower than Craig's (black mk2) that was running 40mm springs which sounds right.

Often coilovers I've seen do only offer a limited drop compared to some. I've seen kits for the Stilo that only go to 60mm odd BUT the benefit of them apart from normally being cheaper is the adjustment they allow if you want a normal ride height. From the sounds of it, that's something along the lines of what you may well have.

Something like these... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FK-AK-STR...CarParts_SM&hash=item415f3a111a#ht_1199wt_952 ...may be a good option...bloomin half the price of equivalent ones for the Stilo  That said, another seller's showing what looks like the same product... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FK-AK-Str...arParts_SM&hash=item35b2cdc06b#ht_4401wt_1185 ...and saying they only lower to the 65mm as you mention. Noticed this with an AP kit I was looking at recently, so maybe enquire directly with the seller to confirm for sure the drop each kit will give before buying.

There are other kits on there too, some a little over £200 but then most others are double, triple or quadruple that so quite a range to choose from. Before buying though, I'd certainly get feedback on any of the forums from those with first hand experience of them. Did that with my Eibachs so knew what I was getting before I handed over any cash :)

Also if you're lucky, someone returning to standard could well be selling their old kit off cheaply. Craig's selling his springs and front shocks off for example on here, so maybe be on the lookout for anyone doing the same with coilovers on here, other forums like Fiat Forum, eBay, Gumtree, etc.

Anyway, hope that's helped :)

Hey Its the Fk Ak coilys I have but I at the time I didnt think I was drop it to the max because I heard that 40mm was a nice heightso 60mm was plenty but when was fitting them I decided to just go for it and drop them to the MAX lol I was just wondering if I can just change the springs on the coilys and keep the struts and shocks the same??

Ah, was kind of guessing that when I read the drop on one of those links I mentioned :p

As said earlier in the thread, it could well be shock dependant rather than springs that'll give you the bigger drop. That said, you could always drop that other lot I linked to with the same (or similar) named kit with 100mm drop, mention the other link with the 65mm drop and ask what the difference is between them or whether it's just been a misprint and take it from there.
