Hey.

The rubber gators on my handbrake cables have perished and the handbrake doesn't want to release after being pulled on. Does this sound like handbrake cables or the callipers? I had to gently knock the cable loose near the calliper to release the handbrake from that particular wheel.

I was wondering how hard of a job it is to change both handbrake cables for both wheels? I will be doing it with axel stands and a jack. (Maybe axel stands if i can loan some).

Thanks.

Not hard if you get good clearance under the car. In general you need to take out 2 ends of the cables and insert new one + insert the cable in its holders.

How do you get the slack? Do you need to remove anything prior to changing the cables?

Thanks.

if you remove the cover from around the hand-break inside the car you will see to bolts on rods wch in turn connect to the hand break cables.... if ur unsure lift the hand break up and down and you will see them move!

now just loosen the top bolts and the cables become slack. if you leave the bottom bolts where they are, when it come to re-tightening them if you get them to the bottom bolt it will be like it was before.

There are 3 cables on the HGT handbrake system, and best to replace all 3.

The one under the handbrake is the tricky one, as you need to remove the heat guard for the exhaust, then fiddle around getting the cable up into the handbrake lever...

Other 2 are simple....

Will the handbrake cables unclip (Pull out) once i've unloosened the bolt under the handbrake enough?

Then once the two new cables are fitted just retighten the bolt under the handbrake?

Thx
