Follow-up to my last post: http://www.network54.com/Forum/15639/thread/1226775837/last-1226790167/Problem+with+front+axle....-!

Broke down before I had the chance to get it checked! :( Turns out that the sub-frame is rotten with rust and a pothole of some sort has finished it off.

Would cost about 650£ to fix according to garage.

Haven't gone up to see the car yet but don't quite trust the mechanic not to rip me off - is it possible that it's rusted through when it only had it's MOT 5 months back (no problems) and no other mechanic advised me of pending doom?

And price-wise, is 650£ reasonable to replace it? Or will I not bother? It's a 99 100 HLX and only cost me 500£ to buy with nearly 100k on the clock...

Cheers, Thomas.

I had to replace a subframe although not on my bravo and i got my good local salvageyard to strip me one and got it fitted for roughly £150

its about a 2 hour job to replace the front subframe going slowly

i would hunt around for a better price.

get a replacement subframe from a breakers as it will cost virtually nothing compared to a new one.
