yep similar to a gulp or a damn knocking sound
when brakes have to be pressed
such as preventing car movign forward
i do hear the noise

More likely water in the dainage holes under the bonnet.
Look in the repair guide unde the water leaks section and you'll see where they get blocked.

Like Oz said, water in the brakes would reduce the brake power and make the pedal a bit spongy. Or you have an airlock in your cooling system.
