Wotcha guy's,

My old girl (1998 2.0HGT) has started to get a soggy passenger footwell recently. I got home from work tonight and the missus said the Bravo has a pond in the footwell!
I had a look and sure enough there was about 2cm's of water in there :(
Anyways, before people sigh and say why haven't you looked on the guide.....I have. So it looks like I've got blocked drainage holes, but where are they? The pics aren't exactly clear. The one on the left (picture that is) Looks like it's in the engine bay just in front of the suspension turret. The other one though I can't tell where the hell that is :( Any clues guys? Or are they both pictures of the same drainage hole?

Cheers.

Martin

Lift your bonnet, the drainage holes are where the bonnet hinges are. Use something to get all the leaves etc out and it will drain but it'll probably be fairly slow. Whatever you use to get everything out make sure it doesn't scratch the paint work as it could turn into a nasty rust patch (best to use something plastic).
Hope this helps
Ben

More or less. The pic on the right is a lot further up at the corner of your bonnet. Its a tight squeeze down there. Get some long nose pliers to pull all those leaves out

i had a big puddle in my old bravo, and it was cause when i put some new speakers in i forgot to put the grey foam back on behind the speaker, rain was running down the window into the door onto the speaker and then into the car! i also used to get some through the sunroof aswell.

Thanks guys.
I would not have found this without the guide.
It's really strange as the water is in a pool in the middle of the footwell, with no visible signs of where it is coming from. The carpet all around the pool is bone dry!
I'll see if I can clear it out before I got to work this morning.

Thanks again guys :)

From one Martin to another....

Sorry to hijack guys...

When I start my car when its been left for a few hours (I.e. first thing in a morning and after work) when I start her or rev her up, I can hear what sounds to be like a mini-waterfall coming from somewhere near the windscreen washer bottle thingy (Mine is a 1.2 SX, dont know if its in a different place on other models)
Although a mini-waterfall would be a very nice feature in a car, I would prefer not to have it me thinks....
My question is, could it be the same problem that Martin was having with the blockage?
Many thanks in advance, and sorry again for hi-jacking!

Martin :)

I can't find the drainage hole.

I wen out this morning and cleared all the water from the passenger side section of the bulkhead, there was a mini swimming pool in there :(
I then got a long thin paintbrush and brushed all the leaves to the front and cleaned them out. Trouble is I can't find a drainage hole.
There are the two mounts for the bonnet hinge bracket thing, then towards the left of the bulkhead getting clost to the passenger side wiper there is a longish bolt with a nut on it, but I can't see any hole!

So looking at this picture, there is the bracket thingy sticking up, I've had a good look to the right of this and can't see any drainage hole.

To the left of it about 3 inches away is the bolt with the nut on it (nice and rusty, god knows what it's there for!

I've got thursday off, so I'll take off the plastic shroud that goes the length of the bulkhead and clean it all out. There are loads of leaves all along there.

Thanks again for any and all help given :)

show a hose into the area, and put it on high pressure spray! flood all the crap out..

of course, if it coesn't clear you might have a puddle INside the car again...

Thanks Brian

leak

I had this problem a few weeks ago. I cleared the drainage holes under the bonnet but it was still like a pond inside the car when it rained!!
I was the sunroof but couldnt get a garage to touch it!!!
In the end I used sealant all around the sunroof and now it is bone dry. Yeah!!!!!!
Obviously no good if you ever want to use the sunroof again tho :(

re

there is drainage things in the sunroof aswell, they are probably blocked?

martin, from what i was told last year, that noise is normal, i think its just the coolant running through the pipes behind he dash board, im probably completely wrong with the explanation, but i had the same thing last year and its nothing to worry about!

Get the speedo's on!

Take your door card off. The plastic membrane behind it will probably be damaged, as mine was. I had the same problem, only behind the drivers seat. A previous owner had slashed the membrane to get at the door workings. The carpet backing is waterproof, that's why the water collects at the lowest point and then builds up in to a pool/ice rink depending on the weather. I went through the same agonies as yourself, front drains, sunroof etc. I'm glad I tried the door first as the others can be a pain to sort out. The cause turned out to be a problem with the inner plastic door membrane behind the door card. I sealed it with waterproof tape and viola! the problem was solved. When it rains,or you go through a car wash, the water runs down the window and inside the door. The membrane is supposed to stop water ingress and route the water to the drain holes in the bottom of the door. If the membrane has been cut, as mine was, the water runs inside the door card, over the kicker plate and onto the carpet. It then runs down the slope and settles at the lowest point. That's why all around looks dry except for the puddle. I would check this first, a previous owner has probably slashed the membrane to get at the inner door workings and not sealed it up again. Good luck.

Ryan - I recently took the car to a gagage regarding the problem I mentionned and he said it definately isn't normal (as the car has never done it before up until recently) He said its most likely that I have a large air bubble trapped in my water system, and the noise is the bubble pushing its way through the water....!?!?!?! I'm not sure whether to laugh at this point as it seems so bloody trivial!! (but I STILL have a pond in my footwell and no-one can seem to locate the source :()

Had a similar sound in my 1.8 seeming to come from behind the dash... thort it mite be an air lock, changed the coolant and spent ages gettin a perfect bleed. The noise stayed there, always going wen the car got up to temp. Never found any problems but it always ran beautifully. Doubt its too much to worry about..jus keep an eye

With regards to the footwell puddle, this may be a bit of a longshot...yesterday I was stripping out the interior of my car and I noticed it was really damp/wet under there but the membrane under the carpet kept it from seeping through. What if there was a hole in the carpet/membrane?

If water got unto the car (somehow), collected under the carpet and bleed through the hole that could explain why the surrounding area was dry.
