Grrrrr.

On the way home from work this eve my clutch decided it wasnt going to grip properly accross all the gears.

The new clutch has only been in a month and the 2nd hand gearbox has been in for 20k.

I also got a clunking/knocking noise from the left wheel when turning right.

GeForce reckons my gearbox is gone. The seal on the end comes with gearbox only and will be a full replacement.

I've noticed a little oil under the bottom of the box where it meets the block. Can anyone advise if its a new box or can I get a seal and also if the knocking is related?

Thanks in advance

(need it sorting asap for Stanford!!)

as for the clunking noise i would say it was the cv joint (could be running dry or on its way out)

try slipping back the gator and be very very generous with the grease, spin the wheel and pack in some more

not to sure about gearbox sry

Is the leaking oil engine oil (black, smells of petrol) or box oil (not as black and smells a bit eggy)

Cant get near enough to smell tom but from the heat of the engine high up it smelt a little eggy

Come on - roll on the bad news :(

I'll lend you the panda if you need a car mate for the weekend. the dogs wont mind...well much..lol.

For next quarters BooZine instead of

"mod of the quarter"

we should have

"failing part of the quarter!"

i reckon clutches and gearboxes will win hands down!

Clutches and gearboxes are pshycic i reckon.

My Gearbox went the night before the scotland meet!

My Clutch went the day before scottish italian car day!

I rest my case and feel Wimmy's pain!

Now hold on Ghengis. Wimmy's car has done slightly less mileage than William Shatners wig so I think it's allowed the odd failure. ;)

I believe that's an average of 24k a year from new but more like 35k a year since you've had it, yes?

At 120k I'd expect problems like that to happen. Still doesn't make it any easier on the soul though eh? :(

Not basing my comments on mileage, been so many clutch/gearbox failures mentioned on the forum recently.

They always seem to happen before meets which makes it even the more annoying :(

Mind you the fact that wimmy's done 120K in his bravo kills the unreliable fiat myth anyway.

bad news mate sorry to hear!

this'll be your third gearbox? :(

i can't help thinking that the remaps don't help the gearbox and clutch!? :(

Na, nowt to do with remap. My first box lasted 100,000 - at least 35k of that was with a remap. You can expect a box to go at that mileage.

2nd box was from a scrap yard so unknown of its true mileage. Thats the risk u take for only spending 160 instead of 750 + vat from Fiat for a new one.

Ooops no. 160 from scrappers. 750 + vat is for a RECON from fiat. For new they want 1300 + vat!!!!!!

Hmm. New one lasted 100K and would cost £1300.

Next one lasted 20K and cost £160.

5 x £160 is £800 so a bargain really. Still a pain in the ass though. :(
