Anybody got any ideas?
I've had a look at some of the other posts about this subject and some suggest replacing different things.
Can anyone give me a list of what i should or shouldn't start to change?
It starts great when cold, it runs sweet as a nut always, but when it gets up to normal running temp and i stop somewhere it is a real pain to re-start.
Sometimes it starts but most of the time it takes a couple or seven goes before it catches (a little embarassing at times).
I did a service on her about 3 months ago but it did it before this so it's not that.
It's a 1.6 16v Brava reg dec'96 if this helps.
Please someone shed some light on this it's driving me nuts.

It's really embarrasing sat outside a shop with guys giving you advice "YOU MIGHT HAVE FLOODED IT MATE" or
"MABYE YOU'VE RUN OUT OF PETROL"
I need to sort this i'm thinking of starting with the HT leads then the Dissy cap then i'm stuck i just don't know what else i need to start replacing Coil, Sensors??
Please help both myself and Big Al.

Re: Re: Re: Re: When the engine warms up it's a bitch to restart

Plugs and leads would be the first thing. There is no dizzy cap on any of the Bravos.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: When the engine warms up it's a bitch to restart

What is it then that the HT leads come from on the brava/o then Tom?
Not long since changed the plugs i'll get new leads next then anything else you whould suggest?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: When the engine warms up it's a bitch to restart

its called a coil pack :)

Its actually 2 coils and the ECU fires them in turn. The haynes manual has a diagram of how it works somewhere.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: When the engine warms up it's a bitch to restart

ok tom, but mine is a 1.8 do they have leads...

If not what the hell is wrong

Thanx

I tell u when mine started getting bad was when my cam belt was changed...could that be it?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: When the engine warms up it's a bitch to restart

What sort of price roughly am i looking at for a coil pack ?
And will this and some new leads give me a better spark?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: When the engine warms up it's a bitch to restart

does the 1.8 have four ignition coils?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: When the engine warms up it's a bitch to restart

The 1.8 and HGT have coil on plug, each spark plug has its own coil.

The coil pack for the 1.6 is £150ish. Try new leads, I've never had a coil fail on a car so far.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: When the engine warms up it's a bitch to restart

could a temp sensor have packed up making the ecu think the engine is cold?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: When the engine warms up it's a bitch to restart

Cheers Tom i'll try some new leads then.

Where whould the temp sensor be or are there more than one and if there are a few which one first or how do you test them?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: When the engine warms up it's a bitch to res

had the same prob on the gf's 106. Changed the plugs and leads but it didn't solve it. plugged it into a machine at a garage and it ended up being the temp sensor. if it costs the same to plug it into a pc to do plugs and leads i'd start with that!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: When the engine warms up it's a bitch to

MPG should be sky high if the temp sender is shot. On the 1.6 its not an easy job as its down the side of the engine behind the ECU.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: When the engine warms up it's a bitc

i'll try the leads then Tom.
Thanks to everyone that's answered it gives me some sort of idea what i need to do.
And if all else fails i'll ask again. lol

The sender is £8 I believe, somewhere I have pics of where it is from when I did the stat.
