Hello All,
I have just had our 1997 Swift Sundance 500 MOT'ed this is based on the 1997 Ducato base, with a 2.5 diesel engine.
One of the "advisories" was that the bottom front cross member was corroded, and would need replacing.
I have looked on YouTube, and it looks a major job, more or less taking the whole front of the vehicle apart.
Any advice or information would be much appreciated, be it somebody to do the work, or DIY.
I live in SE Cornwall.
Thanks,
John Carpenter.

Hi, I think the 'official' method suggests removing the radiator but when I did this job I tied it up and worked from underneath, I recollect it being a relatively straightforward job provided the six set bolts are not seized (mine weren't fortunately)

I would suggest you check that you can undo these before committing to a DIY job!

Hi You might want to check this video on YouTube on removing the cross a member on an X244 (2006) which I would think being the same body as your 97 model would be the same.

On our 2003 Ducato I noticed early on that were rust areas appearing on the cross member so I went about pumping every hole & crevice with fish oil & not only the cross member alone I think anything painted black is just raw steel underneath, would do the same for a new one before installation!
Available from here - https://www.centralpanels.co.uk/product/fiat-ducato-1994-2005-new-front-lower-crossmember/ Out of stock

The bolts in blightly are very lightly to be seized - start with penetrating oil a few days in advance and don't be tempted to use a massive breaker bar. IF it won't open use an impact and patience or the weld nuts will come free or tear a hole in the chassis leg.

Hello Corcai,
Thanks for your response, very much appreciated.
Cheers John.

Self fit not a problm 4bolts on this mdl easy pesy, When you rmove it there will more rust and holes they all go, If it has not been relaced before I would be surprised, New mdl's have not got this cross bar now
