My 96 ducato is turning over but not starting, breakdown guy diagnosed fuel pump problem
apparently the fuel pump may not be in the tank as he suggested
i'm told its probably a mechanical pump
has any one had this problem ?
where is the fuel pump?
Thanks

The lift pump is part of the injector pump in those, when it loses prime you could be all day trying to start it, usual suspects for air leak causing it to lose prime are perished return hoses or o-ring on fuel filter.

Halfords sell a crappy but functional inlíne priming bulb you can plumb in before the filter to pump up the system when it's lost prime.

a cheap priming bulb pump is always a worthwhile fitment on this type of diesel, saves starter motor wear, battery discharge and bad temper. They are preferable to nothing at all.

With the key at position 2, squeeze the bulb repeatedly until stiff resistance is felt. You could also slacken the diesel return pipe at the injector pump while doing this, watching for diesel coming out.

Slacken the 4 injector pipe union flare nuts at the injectors, only a little is necessary. Crank the engine until you see diesel leaking at each flare nut. Tighten them up again, and it should start immediately.

If no go then you have a more serious problem.
