The workshop that last changed the engine oil on my (2012) Ducota 3.0 failed to reset the counter for the next oil change. The car now keeps on bleating about the oil change being required, including a most annoying red flashing led. While of course the oil is still fine.

What can be done about it? For some other cars, I found a recommendation to go to the relevant setting in the display, then keep some button pressed for long enough, but I couldn't find which one. I do have an ELM327 OBD-interface, working fine, can that be any avail?

You can reset using multiecuscan or alfaobd with the elm cable

As above, multiecuscan is your answer, reset service indicator and oil change, two separate resets need doing,

Wouldn't know mate sorry,
There are app's for android and apple devices that link up with Bluetooth OBD connectors avail off eBay but couldn't comment on what will work or not, someone on here may though

With regards to the scheduled maintenance warning lamp my handbook says "This warning light comes on at the scheduled
service warnings and stays on constantly when
the deadline is reached. The warning light goes off after
the service has been carried out at a Fiat Dealership or
once 1000 km have been covered at the service
deadline."

No, this is oil change indicator which is different to the service reminder. It MUST reset at the same time as changing the oil.

Failure to do this can result in breakdown and costly PDF damage.

OP you must get this reset as a matter of urgency, and the oil changed again at the same time. Failure to reset can result in the above, and failure to change the oil again can at a later date result in possible engine run away if oil level increases and bypasses the turbo seals! (n)

I know they are different but the service reminder was mentioned in one of the earlier replies.
What damage is likely to occur if the oil and filter have been changed but the oil indicator has not been reset i.e as in the original post?

I may be wrong, but dpf regeneration can only be performed on new ish oil, or oil that's under a percentage of deg'
Whether this affects routine whilst running regen I don't know, but the oil change I'm sure is linked to the function of the DPF

With multiecuscan if you wanted to force a regen, like I was going to try early this year due to 84% clogging of dpf
But as my oil was probably about 10,000 miles from due a change, the software said no, so I left it, and just ran up motorway in 4th gear for 20 miles 3000rpm and cleared most the clogging :)

So oil change reset is linked

Diesel particulate filter. It is a ceramic foam with tiny tubes to catch the soot. Every 300 miles or so on my car extra diesel is injected when the engine is running hot at decent revs. This heats the ceramic to about 650 degrees to burn off the soot. You need very good C2 or C3 synthetic oils as they burn very clean and have other properties to avoid polluting the dpf. That's why it is not recommended to use a dpf equipped car for lots of only short journeys as they see the most soot without regen opportunity.

I have just checked my 2013 (2.3 multi jet) for service and oil change, the next scheduled service is due at 21585 miles but the oil change says ------ so is this function not set on mine for oil change.?or is the 3.0 different.Any info would be gratefull

Oil change isn't a set mileage, its dependent on time and driving conditions. If lots of short journeys it'll pop up sooner than a car that does a lot of motorway mileage.
