hi. photo of my throttle flap full of gunk & inlet manifold is the same on my x250 -2008-160 done 22000 miles only do you think its the EGR valve I am waiting to see if techno 100 egr valve cheater is a success after his France trip ( lucky man ) I expect my throttle control here on Tuesday the other photo is the only damage I did was the large jubilee clip & plastic fastener under the grill (2) with out taking of the inlet manifold I will try & get as much crap out as I can before fitting new control this a great forum for information & if I have any good info

I pass it on only to pleased to help anybody out . cheers

The EGR blanking was an immediate success, I didn't realise you were waiting for more information.

This picture is after 1500 miles around Scotland some weeks ago after blanking the EGR. Absolutely no sign of any dirt and only replaced this due to the water ingress damage.

hi techno 100 . someone said something about overheating if the egr it's blocked off you know what scaremongers are like
thumb_down.gif
so no prob.s then with overheating or running & the new throttle control I have ordered is the same as yours when I get my EGR cheater kit can I be a nuisance for any info if needed thanks .

Not overheating in the traditional sense egr reduces egt in some engines higher egt can lead to headgasket / cracked cylinder / exhaust manifold / burnt valve issues etc. I doubt this runs very hot to begin with you can fit a pyro sensor if you're concerned.

Yes but the info is on here somewhere
I would add though that someone "sorry can't remember who" contacted Tafmet for clarification as to whether the blank plate is really necessary and the reply was no if you are sure the EGR is fully closed.
So you can just fit the electronic device and blank the vacuum pipe to good effect

hi. cheers for your replies

if I just fit the egr cable cheater & block the vacuum pipe how will I know if the valve is closed . thanks p.s still on the

You won't
Yes we're at St Clement des Baleines and probably top of our list if we come back.

I managed to remove the wahler one some months ago without but I doubt you could put it back on without removing the slam panel
The Pierburg is even more difficult and I needed a 13mm socket on a quarter drive extension anything else is too big for one of the bolts at least.
Save yourself the grief and strip the front off it doesn't take so long when you've done it before
Battery drill and torx bit speeds it up

hi just finished fitting the new pierburg control its better than the old one as its a sealed unit yes you have to take the front off & if you do have to fit this one put all 4 bolts in a short way then tighten up the left one nearest the head first its easier that way tried to post photos for you but there is a gremlin somewhere will post more when I test drive it

To extinguish the warning light with the p0638 warning, start the engine and turn off 6 times in quick succession ... worked on my 08 plate . Fault was the servo in the throttle body ... new modified body and loom .. £350 all in
hi all like I said went on the test drive starts & runs like a new one & like mikey pat's the light went out ater 4 times I think & I have started it over a dozen times over 3 days & its still stays out fingers crossed

the only difference was £ 186 buycarparts

cheers

Just had a look at mine 07 130 multijet today and it is the Wahlner unit but bone dry but getting engine warning light in dash plus the P0638 error on the diag saying"fault in the actuator control "and also says "throttle actuator control range Performance bank 1" with this message"ETC system says stepping motor controls throttle".

I recently had a slight problem when starting ok but not revving at all switched off waited 5 mins and started and ran ok but occasionally losing power when driving and then clears itself.
Do you reckon it is the throttle valve problem discussed here guyz??

Put the light out and rechecked with Diag no faults!! switched on/off and stays out now and running fine. Saved me £200.

I know this thread's old, and my original findings are on here.

Going back to the same vehicle i have been trying to fix, it's still putting the light on, and I've found the control side of the throttle actuator appears to be the fault, rather than the body itself. I have a new diag tool which allows me to see control setting for Mass Air Flow, and the actual reading. What I've found is the throttle body servo isn't moving to allow the Mass air flow to the correct target figure when the fault happens. Even with ECU unplugged for a year (seriously this fault has put the van out of regular use). If I remove the throttle actuator's electrical unit, the actual throttle flap can be closed by hand at idle until it's nearly shut, and then it can be used to adjust the Mass air flow to the correct amount. The electrical part of the actuator doesn't do this, hence P0638 fault after each restart.

I have a spare electrical unit and this operates exactly the same as the other, therefore leading me to believe this fault isn't the actuator in this case, but rather something else - either a sensor or the ECU, or a wire, which is not sending the correct control signal to the throttle actuator to move the flap correctly. Not found out which it is yet, but both MAF or MAP sensors appear to be working correctly using live data.

Has anyone studied the Throttle Actuator flap position during their diagnosis of this fault by any chance? All I can see happening is the throttle actuator will usually snap shut after starting for a brief moment, possibly as a self cleaning operation.

What I can report back on now is that the last (3rd) Throttle Actuator from FIAT, and the one before, were both the old style Wahler ones, and not the new one shown later in this thread. Interestingly the 2nd one (from Euro Car Parts) came with a short cable - but this was like an extension of the original loom connector and nothing more. That's why at the time I assumed the loom was a mod for the new Actuator which was very misleading. Only having seen the new style one I have realised that I've never tried a new style unit in this vehicle. Could it be that the new style unit operates in a different way to the original, or is it simply a new version in terms of being a sealed (waterproof) unit? Any knowledge on this would be good to know, as I have thought whether buying a new style throttle actuator might finally solve this King of problems!

hi sorry to here you are still having the same fault . with the water coming in the engine bay through the scuttle it brings lot of problems that's why fiat changed the front so they could redesign the scuttle water ingress then call it the facelift model that's just shyt of fiat so all of the older models have ticking time bombs i know this isn't much help to you but it could be for someone
