Hi
Has anybody replaced the Timing belt, Pulleys & Tensioner on a 2003 2.8JTD engine if so can you explain any difficulties that were encounted & what was the procedure for tensioning the belt after installation? Did the injection pump pulley have to be aligned in any way?
How is the belt tension set on the Tensioner to obtain the correct tension as I cannot see from the manual I have how the actual Tensioner works there seems to be no springs etc to maintain the correct tension over the life of the belt?
The manual refers to a “Calibrated Shim” Tool which looks like something with a knurled knob on one end to adjust the correct tension of the belt via the Tensioner when installing a new belt but doesn’t exactly explain this procedure. ( Tool = 2 see Pic)
Does anybody know how this Tensioner system works & how to adjust the belt tension if you don’t have this Tool?
Any help would be appreciated

HELLO
I DID THIS SOME MONTS AGO.
yOU DONT NEED TO AJUST THE PUMP AFTER THE CHANGE.
YOU CAN PUT AN ADJUSTABLE WRENCH ON TO KEEP THE TENSIONER IN THE BACK POSITION WILE YOU DO THE JOB.
WHEN YOU ARE FINISHED YOU RELEACE IT AND TURN THE ENGINE OVER SO THE TENSIONER CAN TAKE UP ALL THE SLACK AND SECURE IT WITH THE BOLT. THEN CHECK EVERYTHING AGAIN.
iF YOU SEARCH YOU WILL FIND MY DESCRIPTION HER IN THE FORUM FROM EARLY SUMMER.

Hi
thanks for the info in your previous post I explains it well Without having seen it in the flesh so to speak it is hard to visualise how it actually works Our Ducato motorhome is now just over 4 Years old but has done only 30,000Kls so I am looking in the next 12 months at changing the belt & the belt pulleys etc & maybe the tensioner as well, just want to have some idea what I am in for
Thanks again
