First iced up morning, started the beast to clear the windows - I don't like driving off iced up- and it took about 10 minutes to go anywhere near warm. Is this normal - seem to have read somewhere that Panda heats up in about a minute..

well it will warm up quicker :)

BTW it takes my sei about that time if i dont rev it

That's the price you pay for a modern thermally efficient diesel engine...

Having 'seen the light' and moved from petrol, I thought it was a bit of a myth that modern diesels are a lot slower to warm on a cold day - wrong! My previous two Puntos (a MkI & MkII) were giving out heat to keep the windscreen defrosted within a couple of miles. The Doblo is noticably different. I expect to have to wrap up warm for my winter commute. I've looked into having an auxilliary engine heater fitted - costly - I'd rather see if I can cope this winter first before commiting myself. In the mean time I bought a small 12v fan heater, that plugs into the lighter socket, at Woolies - £7.49 it seems to keep the screen clear 'til the engine has a chance to warm up.

Reving a cold engine? Must remember not to stand next to you - 'cos one day the god of car engines might strike you down with a big thunder bolt :D

Not tried this but someone told me the aircon heats things up quicker in the same way it can also cool things.

I have same problem with my heater, it takes an age for car to warm up properly. But have no problems clearing screen, just wack on the air con, with fan on 2 or 3 (not 4!) and it will clear in seconds, but don't expect it to be hot, it doesn't work like that.

Benefit of using air con is it clears all windows not just screen. In fact you must use air con if you have it, throughout winter, as it degrades through lack of use.

I have a Panda diesel that takes a few miles to warm up & also the non turbo Doblo that warms up quite quickly when on the move.
I like driving off as quickly as safety premits ie front window & sides defrosted. I don't think idling is to good for a cold nor is over revving.

Rev it!!!! Faster the engine gets hot the quicker it will go into closed loop thus the cat will start working thus better for enviroment & car heats up faster!

Or,

Do what I do,start up car, give it few healthy revs to get cat working...get out car...lock door with spare key...go indoors & watch neighbours scraping ice of cars while you have cuppa & toast:D

On my 1.2 petrol I find that you never get any heat without the fan going. It only needs to be on 1 but with the fan off the car is cold even after the engine is fully warmed up.
PS I never watch neighbours or any other soap ;)
