Hi.
2006 doblo 1.9 mjet.
Fitted new crankshaft oil seal (timing end)
After a few miles keeps popping out (done this twice so far)

Ideas anyone?

Wrong seal?
directional seal?
crankcase pressure?

Am baffled

Thanks,
Ed.

Crankshaft end float excessive? Usual cause of seal unseating itself.

Grab hold of the crank pulley and try to push it in and out. Can you feel any movement?

When you fitted the seal first time was it very easy to press into position?

Yes, movement there. :-(
Presume this means a stripdown?
If so then I'm not going to bother. May sell it on here with the fault and let a more competent/enthusiastic person to do it!
Shame because I like it. But I really can't be bothered.

Let me know if it is a big job.
Thanks for your help.
Ed.

How much end float do you think you have?
You could try a new seal with a smear of rtv sealant on the periphery after cleaning oil off hole it fits into. When the rtv sets it may be enough to retain the seal.
The seal should take a really firm push to fit.

It really depends on how much end float you have as jackwhoo says, if enough to easily feel it, then even rtv sealant will not work and yes it would require a strip down and rebuild... bummer....
