Was set on getting a MW next March, but saw a Doblo Family in the dealer today, didn't know it came with 7 seats! Do the rear ones come out to give you a full boot?

Also if you go for the Dynamic you get aircon & CD, alloys, anything else, but does the Dynamic not have the 3rd row of seats like the Family?

So which is bigger boot wise, seats wise MW or Doblo. Looks like I can save £2k by getting a Doblo over MW.

Cheers

Hi,

The rear seats in the Family double fold to reveal a limited amount of boot space, or can be removed completely (very heavy - two man job). The one drawback is you dont get a rigid parcel shelf with the Family which can be a problem if you want to leave items hidden in the boot.

Only the family comes with the third row of seats, if you want aircon,CD and alloys with the Family these are optional extras.

I am not sure what the Stilo MW is so can't comment about which has the larger boot - sorry.

Cheers

Just had a look at the Stilo MW on the Fiat web site. there is not a full side on picture, but from the picures of the outside and the boot my instanct is that the boot would be small, if for no other reason than the fact that the MW is car shaped, rather than box!
On simple figures the Doblo appears to win hands down. Capacity of the MW is given as 510litres/1480 - seat up/down, while the Doblo boasts 750 with the seat up AND parcel shelf in, and 3000 seat down.
At the end of the day it's what you want the car for. the Stilo has lots of 'additional features' the Doblo just dos the job!

Pro's and Con's to Doblo Family ownership:

Pro's:

Space, lot's of it.
Good driving position, superbly placed gear lever.
Forward vision excellent - try driving a Prius after a Doblo , it's like looking through a letter box
Excellent controls/mirrors (oh those mirrors https://www.fiatforum.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
:))
Good reliability - only FIAT to get a 4 star reliability rating in What Car
Bloody good diesel engines - both of 'em
Access to middle and rear seats is very good
Multiple adjustment on drivers seat.
ABS is standard on the Family (and it's good, I used today - bloody white van man)
Tight turning circle - especially good on mini roundabouts
The bright colours used on the dashboard etc. They actually make a
difference
You can't pretend you're Steve McQueen - and you'll never take yourself too seriously again.
Rear passenger door windows open - try this on a Multispace or a Kangoo - makes a big difference when driving a greenhouse on wheels.

Con's

Warms up slowly inside
Paint is a bit fragile
Sit up and beg position can hurt your feet/ankles on long journeys unless you
set the seat up properly
Some dodgy electronics
Always having to explain that yes you did want to buy a van with windows.
The ride is a bit hard and bouncy - it's not happy on bumpy or broken road
surfaces - hell it's a van with windows
Leans a lot around corners
Dodgy and cheap plastics used in the interior - very soft, scratches easily -
probably the cheapest feeling thing in the car

Hope this helps

Thanks for that everyone. I'll have to go & test drive one.

I think I'd rather have the parcel shelf. I see the dynamic only comes in the 1.2 petrol & 1.9JTD. No 1.3 MJ Dynamic :(

I take it Active has no aircn/CD/alloyss

The 1.9JTD will cost me as much asa 1.6 Stilo MW.

Anyone driven a 1.2 Doblo...any thoughts?

Cheers again

The doblo with a 1.9 jtd is a hoot, and when its on song (turbo spooled) it'll give most cars a run for their money. You'll learn to work the gearbox and plant the old clog on the loud pedal at just the right time.

iv got a 1.2 doblo, its really nippy and really good on fuel. just hard to get some parts for. Some spares shops only list the 19D for things like starters etc..

Interesting. I am amazed if it has a good rating for reliability. I had only had my 1.2 petrol a few weeks when the wiper blades tied themselves in knots and the linkage balljoint popped out. The Fiat dealer said you have to buy the whole assembly with motor and they always have it in stock as it's a common fault. I have been having trouble with my car lately and took it into the garage for a diagnostic check. It turns out the head gasket has gone but they have also found a pile of other faults, total estimate over £800. This is on a 2002 car with 68,000 miles on the clock. It also seems to blow bulbs quicker than any other car I've owned (and I've had a few bangers in my time). On the other hand, I would say the Doblo is one of the most comfortable cars I've driven and the handling always feels perfectly safe.
On a 200 mile each way, mostly dual carriageway journey mine averaged about 32mpg.
I am generally happy with the interior, I'm not bothered that there's no rear seat headrests. I hate having no temperature gauge though. The sliding doors need a lot of force to start them sliding when opening and closing. I quess someone elderly and frail may not have the strength to operate them. On mine the wheels have rusted very badly and it does not have full wheeltrims so they are on display. Theres no locking fuel cap so I worry about people stealing or contaminating the fuel. Mine was made in Turkey, make of that what you will.

Well as I've just had a new gearbox on an 18,000 miler 04 plate I'm not sure about the reliability (I only reported what I'd read - M'lud). Still it was replaced under warranty so can't complain. Let's see what happens from here on in.

A lot of the other things you mentioned such as rear headrests, locking fuel cap and temp gauge have been added to the newer models. My trouble is going to be finding something with that amount of personal space when I replace it. I feel claustrophobic in anything else now.

Despite it's faults it has to be one of the most characterful cars I've ever owned. I had an almost ridiculous feeling of relief when I got it back from the garage - Damn it, I missed her.

See This Thread for some peoples views on the Doblo heater ;) apart from that I think they're great, will be getting one soon, have driven one and I love it! For a first car it may seem a little strange, but I need it for its space cababilities, but once I saw one I thought that's the car i want! :D
