Clutch Woe's

As you all know, I fitted a new clutch last week and although I haven't said anything, I am experiencing some small problems, mainly slippage.

I spoke with a friend in the trade and he had a sniff round it. He, like me, couldn't fault the DMF as it is quiet and seems to function well.

I thought along the lines of the clutch friction plate being a bit naff looking when compared with the almost dead clutch. In fact, the friction plates were identical, when the old one "should" have been worn to smooth.

I went to the supplier today and told him. He looked up the numbers and asked if I wanted him to call LUK, which he did.

They said "That isn't the correct clutch for that car!"

Yet, it fits onto the DMF also fitted to my car..... The plot thickens....

So, the parts man called Valeo, who told him what numbers were allocated to my car. Lo and behold, they matched a "different" LUK clutch set!!

So, MAM, who do all the computer stuff so parts factors can get the correct match for a given reg prefix or VIN, have got it wrong then?

NO! They take their information directly from the manufacturer, who have asked suppliers such as Valeo and LUK to make a run of parts to fit a certain criteria.

Seems LUK have been supplying incorrect clutches for the Doblo with the JTD 1.9 and in fact, the same engine will go into a Punto, but requires a lighter clutch. The Doblo is a heavier car and as a van, can be rated heavier still.

SOMEONE has made an arse of things and I intend to chase it up and get a proper clutch for my model of car and let certain UK parts manufacturers know that THEY got it wrong, NOT me!
