Technical Wiper Linkage

Links came today good service from Wipex.(y)
I would suggest you check the wiper spindles for free movement before fitting new Links,
I had removed the whole wiper assy a real easy job 2 sockets & a screwdriver, took 10 minutes.
The N\S wiper spindle was really tight in its bush!! this is the one that failed, to remove the spindle was easy it is held in by a C clip, stop clip rotating and push gently on other side and it pops off, under then there is a FLAT washer then an O ring presumably as a seal, the shaft should now slide out of bush, there is a crinkle washer at bottom of shaft, clean with Scotch pad, (would suggest not returning this to her indoors after use) have a real good look at the ball and clean polish if rusty, mine was re assemble with a healthy amount of grease, I did both just for peace of mind, then fit new links & re fit to Doblo.
It is strange that the N\S gives trouble and was the one with the tight shaft & rusty ball the O\S was free & ball without rust.
Now only time will tell if this is a cure ir the new links are no better than original

Here goes, prevoiusly discussed by other people, the wiper linkeage has given away, elastic bands last for a while, any body know how to fix it, or should I just drill it and use a bolt or split pin?

Look forward to hearing from you all, oh the last doblo It had did two hundred and eighty nine thousand miles on the clock, it died.

It was a 1.9JTDELX car.

Shame about the wipers.

Graeme.
try ebay or wipex . com you can get the arms seperate here for around £30

Mine had to be replaced a couple of months ago too. Whole set; motor and linkages. Suddenly I just had a single wiper working, at night, at work, fortunately in front of me, but...very annoying! And expensive.

Apparently this is one of the Doblo's weaknesses.

The dealer was brilliant though and did it on the spot the next morning..

how much did this cost or anybody who also had to replace theirs(y)

What age and mileage are the linkages failing at?My offside went at two years and 30000.Did a temporary repair and got it fixed under third year warranty.Car is 57reg.

I honestly can't remember, but it was over £200 and the car was out of warranty (fourth year and maybe 30K). I've never had to replace a wiper mechanism before, on any car, and the dealer said it would have to have a new motor et al - they would wouldn't they! But, as I said, I was back on the road the next night, and as I need my car for work I was very grateful for the service department's expedition.

However, I felt ripped off. By Fiat as much as the dealer; for them having sold me a car with a known design fault. Wipers should not collapse, period!

A deeply unpleasant exchange with a particularly obnoxious salesman has since had me go to a different dealer for servicing and all other work, but I'd still buy a Fiat again. I'll be careful about who I deal with though.

:bang: My wiper arm went about 2 years ago, new wiper mech would cost about £160 from Fiat, fixed by making a steel plate with a slot that slides in to the neck of the the ball. then fit the arm and pop rivet the plate on to the arm, it is still working perfectly 2 years on just oil link occasionaly [plenty of room for that] the whole job took me about 30 min Good luck [I think all part on Doblo are made to last 3 years and 1 day] will never bye another Fiat as long as I live
Fiat Doblo 19JTD 04

Probably too late, but if it's the linkage pivot joint I found a few wraps of duck tape held it together for about 2 years at a time. Eventually the stupid worm gear wore through the nylon cog so had to replace unit after 5 years.
