Glow plug light flashing for 60 secs

Hi,
just bought a second hand Doblo 1.9 ELX and have noticed the glow plug light flashes for about 60 secs every time I start the engine. The manual states that this is a diagnostic function and signals a fault in the glow plug system, but I can continue to drive but should see a Fiat dealer to diagnose the fault.

Should I be concerned here? the vehicle runs fine and the light does go out but since this is my first diesel I have no experience of this sort of thing.

Cheers
Seoras

More than likely will be faulty glow plug or glow plug circuit.

Get it checked before cold weather comes in.

Thanks, can this only be done at a Fiat dealer or will any garage do this work?

Re: Glow plug light flashing for 60 secs

Hi,

I also have the glow plug sign flashing after start up - went to Fiat Dealership today, and was quoted 90 quid + VAT just to hook it up to their computer to see why it is flashing! And then if it is just the glow plugs needing replacement, this would be be a further 280 quid + VAT! - Is it me or does that sound a bit steep...

Might just get a set off ebay for 20 quid, and have a go myself, assuming that is why it is flashing...

Sounds like someone trying to avoid having to deal with your undertray.

The other three are much easier, and that may do the trick, but shop around on the internet, not Ebay for the glowplugs. Should be around 16 - 18
each.

Re: Glow plug light flashing for 60 secs

Looks like you can get a fixed price service from Fiat dealers and if you choose the silver service (£149) they replace the glow plugs.
