Hi I’m just changing the drive shaft of my 1.9 diesel auto gear box 06plate Croma and oil has come out how do I replace the lost oil and is it an easy job?
Thanks

Fairly easy as you have the under tray off. Proceedure says for 2.2 but it's the oly one on eLearn (you can down load from donloads section). Fluid for diesel is
TUTELA GI/VI Torque for plug is

2.4 ÷ 3.6 daNm

Except for any automatic gearbox version of the Croma 2005+ there is no "Oil Level Plug Hole" or dip stick to measure oil level.

The official procedure is to drain and re-fill with required amount.

For me this is yet another *rap GM design. Every other Fiat gearbox I've worked on has had a "level plug" so the oil level can be easily checked and topped up at every service.

Hi,

Please read the thread before posting, the OP has an automatic transmission.
It is incorrect to say only the automatic transmissions have a level check plug. The 5 speed manual gearbox has a level check plug. Please note the forum rule "You may not post words or URLs that are censored by adding spaces, dots, or substituting characters; or by any other means in an attempt to defeat any censors put in place."

My mistake regarding missing the "auto" box. Point accepted.

As for level check plug on the manual C544 M32 box this is not true. There is a plug but it is not a true level plug.

If you read eLearn and the Gear Box Oil Level Check Procedure: :D

===========================================
Op. 0010T41 MANUAL GEARBOX OIL CHECK LEVEL AND TOP UP IF NECESSARY

It clearly states:

- Position the vehicle on a lift.

Op. 7055B54 UNDER ENGINE PROTECTION/GUARD - R.R.

1. Remove the engine oil filler plug.

1. Unscrew the engine oil drain plug and allow the engine oil to drain out into a suitable container.

Threaded plug (a) is not used to drain and refill with transmission fluid. It is therefore not advisable to remove it from its seat.

- Clean the drain plug and the plug seat to remove any trace of sealant.

- Apply sealant (LOCTITE 510 or equivalent) to the plug threads and tighten into its seat to the specified torque.

- Add fluid of the specified type and quantity through the filler opening.

The fluid quantity specified in the table is the total amount contained in the gearbox (use if filled after servicing the gearbox at the bench) because 0.2 litres are left in the gearbox in the event of partial operations on the vehicle.

Note the comment about threaded plug (a) often mistaken as a level plug!

The M32 box is 6 speed, not 5 speed!
To see the 5 speed options on eLearn you have to select the 1.8 petrol model and your language before clicking on the image of a Croma. I assume you have selected one of the diesel models.

Yes I was talking about the six speed box. Compared to the diesel engine models sold hear in the UK the Croma 1.8L with the C543 (F17) 5 speed box is not that common.

As per my original post this is the type of Fiat gearbox with level plug I've always been familiar with. Sensible design.

I'm sure the six speed box oil level check info will be of value to the rest of the Croma forum readers.
