I have a Fiat Croma 1.8 16V (2009, 173.000 km) for three years now. Still very happy with the car but the gearbox makes some noise when putting it in reverse. A mechanic recently changed the gearbox oil and told me that he found small metal parts (more than normal). During a test drive he couldn't hear any noise and he told me to drive on. A gearbox revision might be required however in the future.
I expect that I have to change to clutch within one year from now.
When changing the clutch they can also replace the gearbox. Since a gearbox revision is rather expensive I am looking for a used one but can only find some for 2.2 engines. I know that the engine in my car is from GM. (Z18XE or Z18XER not sure).
Here is my question: Can I use a 5 speed gearbox from GM in my Croma? If so which type should I look for?
Thanks for a reply.
