Beau, don't take this offensively but are you hell bent on invalidating your warranty for when something will undoubtedly go wrong?
if anything went wrong, which i very much doubt with a dell then il just reverse my mods, and if its something not so major then il probably get it done for nothing where i work.

Well if you know what you're doing then OK

he obviously doesn't though. as Hellcat said, the system may not boot up if the fan is changed. Also, i'm fairly sure there's a warranty sticker which breaks if the side is taken off.

Either way, if it goes wrong, Beau will probably get told to go away by Dell.

A lot of us do get very heavy handed with him, leave him be and let him learn the hard and expensive way, has worked for me.

Whats the point in LED fan when the side is solid?

In a dell the fan will be controlled by the mobo.. putting a different fan on could prevent the system from booting or could damage the mobo.
look, this is the front/side of the computer from far away-

this is the vent bit at the front/side where the fan is behind close up, so a lit up fan will light up all the grill/vent bit  iv circled in red where the fan sits (just behind the mesh stuff)-

Seriously if modding your comp is your thing... then a Dell is not the base to start with.

I wouldn't change the Dell fan. It's bound to break the comp. It just will.. Dells are like that. Fit some cold cathode lights if you can and be done with it.

well im not really into it but i like it, if it cant be done then i aint that bothered but would be cool if i could do something.

il fit the fan and see what happens, anyway, it still might not be the right type.

Ok... I tried.

Tweaking anything in a Dell is bad news. They are built to very tight limits. The PSU are only just upto the job as standard. They're designed as not to be adjustable. If you want a change the only thing I'd possibly suggest would be the case from a XPS system of the same age as there is a better chance of mobo fitting etc.

Just to add to the list of 'Don't do it's'

We use Dell exclusively, and when we moved onto the GX280 the motherboards were popping for a pastime, of about 1500 pc's ordered, 10% had failures. Either fan issues or usb port's killing motherboards as people plugged in a pen drive.

Don't mod a dell!!!

Not quite...

How does heatpipe technology work?
A heatpipe is a hollow tube filled with vaporizable liquid.
1. CPU heat is absorbed in the evaporating section
2. The liquid boils to vapour phase
3. Heat is released from the top section via the fins; vapour condenses back to liquid
4. Liquid returns by gravity to the lower section

i know how to change a fan, if something goes wrong, il reverse the mods and get dell to sort it. simple.

Not quite. If you've opened the case up, then you've already said 'bye bye' to any warranty.

As said before, Dells and mods do not go. This I've seen first hand - tried to add more RAM to a Dell - didn't work afterwards, and damaged the mobo beyond repair..............
