Hello learned friends.
My daughter is going to work in the US of A for 3 months and she has been told that where she is working she can connect to the internet only by connecting with an Ethernet cable. Her new windows 8 tablet doesn't have the corresponding LAN socket (hope I've got the terminology right). I have heard that there is some kind of adaptor that you can buy to connect the LAN cable to a usb and then to a micro usb, but then you have to install software with a disc, bwhich of course a tablet doesn't have !:bang:
Any ideas?
Thank you for reading

Basically set that up
then plug that into the Ethernet socket
use tablet as usual, tell daughter not to give out password, (if others do bad on net is traced back to daughter)

Could mask the ssid, so the network can't be detected by others as easily

one catch, I think in america they use a different thingy, on wireless, just looking into that now found nothing

Hopefully it won't cause a problem. It is only one of these "camp America" type places, not a commercial office. It is just so she can keep in touch with us back home. Her laptop is too big to carry so we got this tablet, but clearly Microsoft have decided that everybody (in USA) only uses wi fi nowadays.

You can get 110-240 volt converters for low powered stuff, that combined with a two way adapter then a phone can be charged as well.
I got confused in the lasts post, will a wireless router work or not?
LUIGI

could just send her out to an electrics shop on arrival to buy transformers to suit equitment
sure they will have a maplin or something simular with a guy who can get her the best stuff

Thanks for all the replies guys.
I bought her an "air pen" from Maplins.
Daughter just Skyped us from New York but that was on wi-fi. We will know tomorrow when she gets to her final destination if the Lan/Usb device works.
