Hi guys,
Outside at 6am checking car over, numberplate light didnt work, :bang: connection problem behind bumper so knew it would fail! Left lights on when checking, went to set off, battery dead! lol so jumped it, got it there.. phonecall from tester, your alarm keeps going off when i open the door.. *i think: didnt even set the alarm* he says the fob isnt even working!.. pop down at lunch, rip out the alarm connections so it no longer goes off..
Then get another phone call..
It failed on:
PS Headlight Alignment (easy)
DS Headlight Alignment (easy)
PS Windscreen Wiper (easy)
DS Windscreen Wiper (easy)
DS Rear Number plate light (easy)
CO Emissions excessive :)eek:)
So he said that the problem could be Lambda "has it been using lots of petrol?" Yes, which then apparently causes the Cat problems..
Luckily i have a spare of both in the shed, so will fit them, dad also says put 30mm TB back on as opposed to 38mm currently fitted.
What else could i do to reduce emmissions/what else could be causing it??
Thanks
Craig

that injector cleaner stuff, theres some which are meant to reduce emissions, cheap fix.

something like redex ?
available from your local halfrauds
not sure that would do it
but definately but your old tb on
will inject less fuel that way
will see a tasty improvement

as far as i know it would
as it injects more fuel into the engine
but not to the point where it would fail emissions
many people use 40 mm tb's

Sound's like it's overfuelling, try a new lambda sensor, they're only about £30, if that. Thing is like he says it may have damaged the CAT, then again people get theirs through with no CAT so that can't be too much of a problem.

Emission test reads:
Min Max
1st Fast idle test
Engine speed = 2761 rpm - pass - 2450 - 2950
CO Level = 0.30% - Fail - - 0.30
HC Level = 77ppm - Pass - - 200
Lambda = 1.02 - pass - 0.97 - 1.03

2nd Fast idle test
Engine speed = 2761 rpm - pass - 2450 - 2950
CO Level = 0.62% - Fail - - 0.30
HC Level = 48ppm - Pass - - 200
Lambda = 1.00 - pass - 0.97 - 1.03

Natural idle seed
Engine speed = 827 rpm - pass - 800 - 1000
CO Level = 0.32% - pass - - 0.35

hi guys.
i have a brava 1.2/16 valve 1999 years.
i failed mot twicw in two days and results are high co2 eventhough i fitted a brand new cat converter.car runs perfect but still fails on co2.oil is new, spark plugs new/air filter is new reved the car/used redex/dove the **** out of it/same ****.one of the mechanics told me some sort of temperature sensor/i dont thinks so couse my car temp is just a nick above middle.can somebody help
any advice is welcomed

If your battery was really flat the ECU may have lost its memory and be trying to learn again and that could have compromised emissions.
You might need a new battery for the winter.
If you have had a persistent misfire that can damage the cat and wont improve the lambda, does it misfire or have flat spots?
Replace the air filter, take it for a burn up on motorway (70MPH will do), leave it ticking over for a while - then try a retest...
Suggest get every thing else ok first though.

My MoT test place has been known to replace a bulb, they charge a lot for bulbs but there is no hassle of retest!

this is a trillion years old Noel :p

:bang:well three times in a row failure.first its brava 1242/16 valve 1999 reg.60000 miles on the clock
changed sparkplugs
oil/oil filter
changed all exhaust including cat converter all new
engine runs perfect.tryed with redex or without.dove it hard before nct for 60 miles/up to 150 km/h
still fail.
the only thing that makes me wonder is that time after time car kind of hickups when on standby.god good.any ideas lads
