I've read up on replacing timing and still a bit weary. I don't want to start it and mess it up half way through and not be able to drive the car for a while (wouldn't be the first time!). Is it simple enough to do?

Does anyone know roughly how much it would be to get it done in a garage for cinq 1.1 ? I know the kits are only about £30 so will prob end up doing it myself!

£10-15 for the belt, check tensioner when off, but they generally last a long time.

Jack up left hand side, wheel off, wheel liner off.

cam covers off

at this point you only need a jack, 19mm wheel wrench and a screwdriver.

then, turn the crack pulley to get the cam and crank markings lined up (check punto section faq)

slacken tensioner, remove belt, refit new belt, tighten tensioner and redo nut.

put everything back.

there is a guide in the guides section (y) :D

plus check the punto faq i mentioned.

I would plan 2-3 hours for a first time, next time will be MUCH quicker.

Good luck with it :)

Just to let everyone know i changed it successfully!!! :slayer:

Took bout 3 hours (but with quite a few interuptions and distractions!) And i was being very carefull.

Once you've done it it is really easy! Just got to be carefull not to move anything.

Turns out the bearing on the tensioner was completely gone so now it runs smoothly with no squeals!

:)
