Well after booking my car in for a service for Tuesday (with Fiat) I thought I would fill my car up to see if they'd notice the smell of fuel when the tank is full (ongoing problem just never really looked at it).

Now I fill it up to the top till it cuts out and squeeze 20p more into it to round it off to £23 (of Optimax too) and notice the floor is wet. I look under my car and its dripping fuel from a quarter of the way in from the driver side of the car. I did'nt want to hang about as it's dangerous so paid, mentioned it to the attendant (didn't seem bothered) and rushed home.

It just dripped a small bit over the driveway and when I stopped I can't see any dripping but it stinks and so do my shoes now too[:(!]

The bottom of the tank is pretty dry but there is a thin black pipe that is clipped around the top of the tank which is wet and the surrounding of the tank is wet (loads of blue pipes there too, one has a rubber tape type thing spiralled aroundf it). Theres some kind of rubber sleeve on this black pipe that looked pretty wet too (looked like water pipe insulation!).

Any ideas?

If I've over-filled the tank does the fuel just drop out on the floor rather than climb back up the filler and drench you???

Fiat are gonna well and truly walk over me come Tuesday, I just know it![V]

P.S. 2001 Sei Sporting warranted to 29/11/04 with only 5160 on the clock dammit!!!! Should've kept the Mini rust-bucket.

Well I just had a quick look again. There's no more drips. I started the car. Still no more drips. I wobbled the car:I, still nothing.

Spose I'm just gonna have to mention it to Fiat. It does say they check hoses/pipes etc so they are already looking at the damn thing!

Good-ish news!

Got back from Caledonia Fiat in Blackpool. My car only needed a low mileage service (overall check and new oil & filter) and cost £120!!

They have investigated the smell/leak down to a dodgy fuel pump gasket (it stank and was wet around the pump) but they didn't have the part in (which was £1.88!).

The guy said it would be £37 fitted but would mention it to the warranty company to see whether it can be done for free.

I'm pretty chuffed now and have treated the car to some Zymol Car wash shampoo!

Just hope its fixed when the part arrives in the next couple of days....oh and my slightly none shiny feeling passenger wing is from tree zap. He said it needs a small bit of T-Cut on it.

jeez - you got fiat at blackpool to do something usefel? pray you'll never need a temperature sender from them (!)

Cinq Sporting - and yes, its broom yellow!

Only used them once before for a radio fascia surround and they seemed very friendly but I was paying for it.

I'll just be glad when it doesn't smell!

No. Looked at a few but got this one from Anchorsholme Car Sales in Carleton, Poulton....who I wouldn't use again. Has Swish Tony qualities[}:)]

I've seen another Red Schummy:p round here of the same year but starts with PJ51 instead of my PF51.

I was approaching a rounabout the other day and saw it, thought I should wave or flash or something, then forgot about the roundabout a bit. Phew, ABS!!! ;)

I miss the Mini community i.e. waving or flashing your lights at fellow Mini drivers. I got it all the time. Perhaps us Cinq/Sei owners should start it off?:D

Well I spoke to Fiat today. The part came in on Saturday and its being fitted, at my expense[:(!], on Wednesday morning.

I'll have a word with the manager and I'll probably end up writing to Fiat as I bet they won't cough up!

I'm not sure if they have changed the oil filter as it looks similar to the last one, which wasn't done by Fiat if it was done at all. Are Fiat oil filters blue with grey writing?

Hi chaps,

Hopefully my last post on this problem but I think its now fixed. £36.74!! Oh well its not expensive but I may badger Fiat UK about it.

Filled up to the top with Optimax and no real smells or more importantly leaks.

Was so excited I forgot to take my hanbrake of for about 2 minutes....eeekkk!

Plus I now own a 1:43 scale Fiat Seicento Sporting model car I got for £2 at Fiat;)

wonder if they can solve the fuel smell on my cinq sproting.. il wait until they find the correct temperature sender before i let them near anything that might be dangerous ;)

Hmmmm maybe but at £50 an hour labour I wouldn't let them near it too long!

Just been for a drive round some twistys and opened it up a little (bail out at 4k[V]) and all seems well.....smells nice thanks to a free Fiat air freshner:D
