hello i own 1.1 seicento and i have noticed that i get temperature red light indicator but water is good no leaks or below the minimum and they are warm i sort it out the fans and the fans worked fine the only problem is the plug of the fan ( i fixed by the way) but the red light in the dash is still open and i am guessing a electrical problem PLS HELP :bang::bang: and the red light does sometime be a strong red light but sometimes is fading WTF?

Someone has replaced the sensor, but used a Cinquecento one (which is for a temperature gauge) instead of the correct Seicento one (which is just a thermal switch for a light).
Thanks for this. I was wondering where I was going wrong. So, the "sensor" at the back of the engine beside the cam and above the dip stick is actually a Switch rather than a temperature reader???? I went and bought a new one, which was red and not black as when I measured the original one, it was open and when heated it didn't close. Obviously I got the incorrect one, for the Cinq and not Seic.
On the OBD I am getting engine temperature, but it does go to 100oC. Slight inaccuracy I presume.
Some questions on this if anybody can answer
1) Where is the temperature sensor that is giving the OBDII reading?
2) Is there a basic switch on the Rad to cut in the fan?
3) Where is the engine thermostat allowing hotter water out of the engine.

Most Italian stuff (and there has been a lot!) I have worked on it's on the right hand side of the engine, above the gearbox.

Hi Dave

I'm not sure what sensor you are referring to above the dip stick? Thermostat opens around 93 degrees? on seicento so 100 might be correct temp.

The temp sensor on a seicento is green and is built-into a plastic housing which is mounted next to the inlet manifold - gearbox end, with two M8 bolts. This tells the ECU the coolant temp and the ECU tells the fan to operate.


On the cinquecento the temp sensor was screwed into the aluminum inlet manifold and there was a temp gauge. Then the radiator has a thermostatic switch screwed into the radiator itself to control the radiator fan. On the seicento they simplified (reduced costs) and omitted the temp gauge and there is just a warning light (the oh **** light) which hardly ever works on my Seicento!

The thermostat is on the end of the engine under the coil packs above the gearbox. 2 x M6 bolts.

I would advise anyone to install a basic aftermarket temp gauge as even Seicento are getting on a bit and radiator can become a bit inefficient etc, basically good to keep an eye on engine temps. The most important gauge on an italian car of course!

So, this is the Temp sensor I was talking about. Cam side, above alternator and beside dip stick.
This is the incorrect red one for a Seicento without a temp gauge. The black head is a switch to turn on the over temperature light after your engine has melted.

I did find the ECU temp sensor screwed into the inlet manifold.
As it's a SPI and not an MPI, that plastic holder thing in the image earlier isn't there.
With the red temp sender, I can now tell the engine temperature by how bright the warning light shines 😁
Anyway, all my messing about with temp sensors, coil packs and Lambda sensors was a waste of time as the final culprit was a split hose to the manifold pressure sensor.

Its a while since i've had a cinq. I assumed you had a seicento. I also didnt know that was a temp sensor so i've learnt something!

Presumably think that red one is for an SPI Sei?
