Tuning Track Sei with 1.2 8v More power ?

Check the timing belt pitch before buying a pulley, theres two different types.

I"d go for the 40mm TB from sparky l, cheapest option when compared to a pulley or piggy back ECU

P.s it should rev to more than 6500!!

Cheers for the help Brooky, where are you Lancaster ? if i drove the car up to see you would you be able have a good look at it and point me the right direction with tuning and have a drive of it, It would be good to have it running spot on.. Sparky is going to do the throttle Body for me ... but is it possible to go to 42mm ? 40mm is what you guys are saying and is cool, was chatting to the guy that built it and he questioned if 42mm would be a better call ?? cheers Ade

I have ordered in another throttle body for Sparky to mod, it should be here in a day or two as ordered it on the 26th and will send it down as soon as it arrives.. thanks chaps for the help.:slayer:

Spoke to the guy that built the car... its a reground one from Piper

im sure it isnt a "hot" cam its Just a standard 866 what can be used as a upgrade but i would not call it Hot

It is a re-grind, the BP270 is Pipers stamp (why i asked for a picture of the end of the cam. The engine i got a while ago has a ground cam stamped up BP285. All ties up with pipers classes of camshafts, fast road and ultimate road/track day.
Better but still not 'hot'

This is why I wanted to borrow the 866, you dug it out yet??

Here's my 2p worth....
If the car is purely for track use and power is the goal then ditch all the standard induction/injection/ignition systems.
A single throttle body no matter what the size is never going to be able to flow enough air for serious power, the standard Mpi setup is difficult to remap and aftermarket mapable ECU's aren't cheap.......My recommendation would be to simplify things and fit bikes carbs and a distributor.
Don't go mad and fit R1 40mm carbs as they're far to big, 34mm carbs from a 400/500/600 bike will be fine for a tuned 1.2.
All 8v FIRE engines have the distributor drive groove in the end of the cam (as in your photo) and an electronic distributor from a Mk1 Panda will be ideal.
With the head port work and skim you mentioned your current cam and a visit to a dyno for setting up you should see about 100-110bhp

Yep agreed... Im going to fit the 40mm TB via Sparky and his skills, try get hold of a vernier cam wheel... and just see how it performs.. It's ok as it is really but i can feel the engine has a bit more in it as it is hance the questions....... but bike carbs do sound like a better long term option, How do i get the Throttle postion sensor to work on nike carbs ? where can i get hold of a Manifold ? ... Im at Oulton on Feb 17th on a Trackday

Sent TB off to Sparky last week so just waiting for it to come back, been doing a few little jobs... fit new handbreak cable, took off the 10mm non centric spacers off the hubs and fitted a full set of 16mm Hubcentric, had tyres fitted to a new set of Punto mk2 alloys (brand new wheels from Fiat x 4 £99 ) fitted conti sport, 185 55 14, im sure they will be fine as a wet set for the track day im doing at Oulton Park on 17th Feb.. fitted a new set of iridium Plugs, new coils and new leads.. just to keep things in good orderke the drivers seat back 2" which has made a big difference in how i feel in the car, bought a new steering wheel and it has let me ta... the Crank Sensor let go had to be taken home by the AA after a road test, nice bloke did a few cheacks and said he was 99% sure it was the the Crank sensor .. £20 Euro Carparts soon sorted it out.. Car is running really well, all the little things you do just make it zing along... looking forwards to the 40mm Throttle to see if the flat spot above 4.5k is a little better..

Re: Track Sei with 1.2 8v More power with 40mm Tb

Well got the TB from Sparky... wow what a nice bit of work indeed thanks Sparky..... fitted it yesterday as been away fo a few weeks, It's more in every way, it's like adding another 200cc to the engine... it's really helped that top end power and it pulls now right upto the red line... First Track day at Three Sisters on Feb 3rd... so will report back

Re: Track Sei with 1.2 8v More power with 40mm Tb

but... how will you be adding extra fuel for the extra air?
Just rely on the ecu self adaptive functions?

Also might be of interest: there was a Motortrend episode where they dyno tested a engine with different air filters types... not 100% applicable (because of V8) but the conclusion is that increased air speed made more difference that extra filter surface area.

Saw Engine Masters, yes was a good but V8 6000cc engines move a lot of air... and filters do make a difference.... also yes the self adaptive ECU is doing the right maths so its puulling harder and better... it would be great to have a alloy inlet and say a 50mm throttle or as some have already stated run it on 600cc bike throttle bodies.... but I have to say my car is ok as it is for now, any more tuning work will be expensive and as it is it's cheap to fix.. engines are £100 etc.. so just put another in and fit all the go faster bits if i blow it up ....the other extreme is to fit a T-Jet enigine .... but will have some fun in it as it is and will look at either selling the car later this year or spending on a T-jet ...
