Well after much head scratching in the conversion here are the 1st pics of the not yet complete but ruinning as it should Imola Hi-boost turbo.

Note the changes made in doing the conversion from my (sadly dead) red Van Aaken prepared Cinq the engine came from, namely compete re-route of hose to expansion tank from the 4 way connector at the bottom of the rad as it passes very close to the turbo, and the the not very clear in the pics, heat shiedling around the TB inlet pipe as it passes the exhaust manifold.

You will proably also notice the routing of the BMC Carbon Dynamic Airbox which takes the cold air supply from behind the fire wall/bulk head which in turn gets feed from the vent at the bottom of the windscreen which is an area of high pressure cold air.

Comments welcome as its a rolling project with many things left to do.

Front view of car, the Abarth bumper has still to be re-meshed with stainless steel mesh and the orange gasket thing painted black and joined by one on the othe side which is used to feed the oil cooler, which although unseen in the photo sits in that corner.

looking good so what kind of performance does that kick out of it

Hard to say to be honest, its an 1.1L hi-boost turbo which I see over a 1 bar of boost on the gauge which settles down to 0.7-8 bar and according to the Van aaken burb you get with the now no longer available conversion 104bhp on 0.6bar boost.

It runs a stage 2 ported and polished gas flowed head a Tricker 40mm TB and the CDA feeding the intercooler, so I supposed at a guess about 115-120bhp, but it does need set up correctly on a rolling road to ensure its all good.

My only comment would be about the cold air feed. My thinking would be low pressure as the passing air is drawn up over the windscreen forcing it to go faster than the air under the car. Hence why wipers lift off the screen at high speeds, but i stand to be corrected.

Cheers

You could be right on that D, but if you think that when a car is moving those intakes at the bottom of the windscreen feed the ventilation in the car which at speed blow a lot of air into the car without the need of the motor going, therefore this same forced air is being feed into my intake, I did run my idea past a Cosworth Engineer who liked the idea a lot.

Had to think long about this going back to all those leassons on aircraft and how they work (can't think why an Air Traffic Controller needs to know that) but yes according to Bernoulli's equation, a fundamental of fluid dynamics, states that as the speed of a fluid flow increases, its pressure decreases. The Longer Path (ie over the top of a wing) explanation deduces that this faster moving air develops a lower pressure on the top surface, while the slower moving air (i.e. bottom of wing) maintains a higher pressure on the bottom surface. This pressure difference essentially "sucks" the wing upward (or pushes the wing upward, depending on your point of view).

As I'm sure wipers lift mid screen rather than at the bottom of the screen it needs someone with more knowledge of car aerodynamics to explain this as i've just confused myself  :)

Woops meant to say to the RIGHT of the Sei is the yellow Cinq cos of course to the left of the Imola is a grey Seat Ibiza Cupra R.

I'll let her know mate.

And it is running, i've just got a passenger footwell full of tools n bits and the MF2 controller which I thinking of fitting with a clear case as it all lights up inside when its running!

Very clean install mate, nice to see the car up and running and also a turbo lump in it's true home and Imola Cinq!

I wanted to say it was a Leon sitting there pah!

Where do all these Turbo's come from, apart from being skint I never see one's coming up for sale but could be tempted into debt should one pop up!

Can we have more pics please Mr Aaron?

Hi mate,

Yeah I'll take pics as I'm going along with it, I still have the Sei stalks to fit along with the MOMO hub and Abarth steering wheel, the Abarth skirts and rear spoiler and give it all a good clean and polish, oh yeah and sort out the leak i have from the exhaust centre box as i just fitted a new CSC centre and there appears to be a little leak so need to adjust and tighten.

As for the turbo's I think most folk on here know I picked mine up off ebay for a grand (bargin of the century) with full service history and all reciepts for work done years MOT etc and emma picked up the yellow hi-boost one which granted is in need of some work as the compression is down in one cylinder for not much more.

Aaron.
