got the 1242 in and its running good BUT its got flat spots and holds back when your flooring it and tbh i dont think its performing how it should. Now I know for a fact that my inlet manifold is reused and onld. infact it was leaking coolant when i first put it on but i sorted it with some instant gasket.

now, i used all the same sensors and so on from the 1108 engine and i was having similar symptoms with that except i know the head gasket was going so put it down to that. at the time laods of people said it was the lambda ... but i changed that 3 times and it didnt cure the problem so i presume my lambda is fine.

Im pretty sure everything else is ok. i change the map today which didnt help.

but as i say.. i know for a fact that the inlet manifold gasket is dodgy and could be leaking air i suppose.

so would a dodgy inlet manifold gasket cause flat spots and kinda rough idling.

any other ideas?

If you're using the 1108 ECU does it need time to adapt to the fuelling for the 1242 or need resetting?

Yeah...the ECU will need around 300 miles to adjust.

Id recommend taking it on as varied a drive as possible ;)

i'd whack a new manifold gasket on, the old one might be slightly disintegrated, as you can tell from coolant loss. The old gasket may be causing a vacuum leak between the throttle and the valves, and that can account for problems.

If/when you take the manifold off, make sure the manifold's mating surface is smooth (i.e. remove any gasket still on), same with the head, then fit the new gasket. :)

I do also have a 1242 Ecu sitting here doing nothing, i'm sure it'll do well with a Mckrich chip too ;)

Hi Bushboy

Try checking the vacuumhose going from inlet manifold to MAP sensor. A defect MAP/vacuumhose can be the reson to bad idle and lack/flat spots.
If the problem was there before engine swap then it could be MAP sensor has gone.

Also try to disconnect the vacuumhose from the MAP with engine running to se if theres any different in idle (should be very bad when disconnected)
If no different - new MAP sensor

Cheers ;)

thanks trick but i already changed the map for one that i know works... but didnt help. and the hose is defiantly air tight.

if fiat have them in stock, ill get a new gasket today anyway so fingers crossed!

oh and dave, i got the hot paint stuff from halfrauds... not their own brand but the stuff thats actually called "HOT PAINT" .. the finish is alot better than the halfrauds rubbish but still not Lacquer style shiny. but im happy with it heh.

halfrauds is just easy and has a car park... all the places around me you have to pay to park in a bay on the high steet etc...

fiat isnt easy and is a pain in the arse to get to and i can only go on thursdays... but i dont have to make sure they sell the bit i need first cause i know they do etc. its easier than calling around motor factors (of which i dont know any in this area) to see if they stock fiat parts

Hi,
The inlet manifold may be leaking water into the engine as well as out giving the same symptoms as a leaking HG, change the manifold gasket and work from there....

Thanks
