I replaced the head gasket a few months ago and thermostat etc and generally running reliable and starts first time. She was converted to LPG a couple owners ago and does circa 39 mpg. I'm not complaining too much as with the local price of LPG she is doing equivalent to 73 but I think she should be doing much more. I feel like she's low on power (I know she's only 899cc) and I think it's related to the high consumption.

I'm impressed with the simplicity of the technology but don't have any experience with this type of throttle body and the sensors. I would appreciate a steer on things to look at.

I don't see anything looking like an engine management light in the dash but if there is one on a '95 FIAT I don't see it. The engine sounds basically ok so I wonder if the fuel feed needs better control - I still feel like either the throttle body or some sensor is causing maybe a rich mix? I did notice the valves pretty coked up when I replaced the head gasket.

I did not preload the tappets so you suspect the valve clearances will be t'cock? I don't see any management light so I guess it's not working?

Thanks for your help

i was reading up on LPG conversions the other day and if i remeber right there are 2 types effectivly a carbed version and an ecu version with fuel injection, find out which type you have the mixer valve might be coked/out of sync or the carb needs tuning.

Mine has the ecu and the gas pipe connected to a port at the front of the throttle body. I'll get the valve settings and try set them up then get some advice on the lpg system if that doesn't do it. Thanks Guys

RC FYI: i found this site the other day, regardless of current system carb or FI can be used depending on the system used in the conversion.

hence why i ask if his carb has been tuned or if its an ECU FI based system sorry not a dig ;-)

I know you can use LPG on carbed or injected cars, not a problem.

I was refering to the fact that a cento was never sold new in the UK with a carb so it is highly unlikely that the OP's car is running a carb system. In fact he states its a throttle body he is dealing with.

One of the drawbacks of LPG is that it has no lubricants (hence the better emmissions) but you can end up with sticky valves.

Spark plugs also tend to burn out quicker with LPG.

Cheers

is that why they recommend iridium plugs?

just seeing the closed loop open loop system i thought it would require a new TB hence why i thought carb would be a cheaper why of doing things lol
