1) During the cold spell my daughter attempted to wind down the window on her Sei. Though the window was frozen she persisted!

Now the handle just spins around and the window slides down on its own (I have had to wedge it in a closed position).

Any suggestions as to whether this problem has a quick fix (assuming I can get the door card off) or requires major surgery on the window mechanism?

2) The door stay on the same door is broken, one of the bolts on the door came loose, it would tighten but then come loose again. After another tightening something fell apart inside the door, so the stay has no "click" function now.

Again, any suggestions as to whether this problem has a quick fix would be welcome.

Not really a quick fix, but:

either the winding mechanism has stripped or the window glass has pulled out of the Tbar thing which holds the glass. If the latter, you can generally either pop it back in or pop it back in with some sikkaflex to hold it in place and just wind the window up to clamp it in place (12 hours or so in this weather). Some silicon spray down the vertical channels will help stop it happening again.

The stay is probably just broken.

If you have to visit the scrappy, I'm pretty sure that the Cinqs (with wind up windows) have the same mechanisms as the Sei.

Be gentle with the poppers on the door card and you'll get it off OK.

Many thanks, fingers99.

Knowing my luck the mechanism has stripped. I can see the door card causing problems as well.

Thanks guys - had a quick look at the handle this morning and couldn't readily see where the clip is , but will try harder this weekend. :chin:

Just checking, which sikaflex type are you suggesting I use?

Quick check on Fleabay shows 221 (in black or white), 512 (white), 252 (white), 291 (black or white), 521 (white), and 255FC.

255FC seems most likely.

To locate the clip, push the door card in towrads the door and peek down between the back of the handle and the door card. You will see a little loop of metal, crochet hook round that and pull.

If you see two fingers of metal either side of the spindle, turn the handle through 180 degrees and you'll see what you are looking for.

Cheers

Thanks for the guidance, though fingers99 was right, its going to be hard to get the (bloody) winder clip of, and if I do I have no idea how long it will take to get back on :shakehead:. I say all this as I have just tried to locate it.

Problems so far :bang:

a) no space between winder spacer and door card - tried to make space but was close to damaging the spacer and door card - no idea how a crochet hook will fit in

b) use a small LED torch down what gap I could make, but could see no sign of a clip, little loop of metal or two fingers of metal

c) and nothing moved around with the winder handle

Will try again, but I was looking for a quick-win and to be honest the car's not worth spending too much the effort on

Tried to leave a post but my log in timed-out and then I lost everything I typed!

Succinctly now, scraper trick didn't work - tried twice. Will give one more go (as I say I wanted a quick win on this one), however series of faults with the car means it is not viable to keep on the road (only done 20,000+ miles!) so when it fails an MOT, it goes in the bin. Daughter left for work in it this morning with normal embarrassing screeching of fan belt/alternator (redex, new fan belt, adjustment all to no avail) and rear end has started to knock. Not safe for her to go out in for more than a few miles, with clutch cable likely to fail. She to scared to go on motorways with it anyway.

So I had another go at the window winder handle removal this weekend, as I said I would.

Ended-up hachsawing the handle off - should be able to put it back on with a bit of blue-tack .

Actually I put some thought into it . No obvious sign still, of a clip between the handle, and its spacer, and the doorcard, :bang: so I thought where would I put this ellusive clip.

Of course I would put it between the spacer and the body of the handle , NOT between the doorcard and the spacer. And hey presto that was where it was; I eventually pinged it out with a scraper blade pushed against one of the ends of the clip. Maybe the instructions provided above were for a different Sei model.

For reference the clip is Omega shaped, with the "feet" pushed in to form a spring clip. The clips sits in a plastic channel on the barrel of the winder handle, the channel being cut-away to allow the clip to sit in a groove on the winder spindle.

Anyway I had to go for a lay down after all that excertion, so door card removal fun will begin tonight.

Pop it on here if you do decide to get rid (in classifieds): sounds like less than a day's work for someone, and we don't like them going to the scrappy!

After I took the winder handle off I realised the MOT was due, so I decided not to progress the door card removal.

The little :devil:passed its MOT today with flying colours, so won't be getting rid of it quite yet, maybe in the summer. Now I can get on and have a go at fixing the window and door stay (when it stops raining/snowing).

Re: Sei S - Driver's Door - Both Window Winding Mechanism and Door Stay Broken

With the MOT out of the way, the arm rest (three bolts) and door card came off fairly easily. What I didn't expect was a thin white foam lining (glued-on) under the door card and the minimal number of cut-outs in the inner door, some covered by small rubber flaps. Couldn't take the foam lining off (it was held in under the sockets for the door card clips) so I made other arrangements .

Door Stay - this had both bent-over flanges had broken at the fold (n), so new one needed.

Window - T-bar about 30cm long, sitting there detached from the glass. It is a slotted bar with rubber insert, glass goes inside rubber. Well it should:bang:, but no manner of pushing, shoving, and use of a small rubber mallet will get the glass back into the T-bar. Not helped by the "keyhole surgery":( required through the inner door.

Any suggestions or thoughts?

1) Persist on trying to force the glass into the T-bar.

2) Take door apart ; removing T-bar and glass and fitting them together externally. Don't fancy this, nothing will fit back correctly.

3) Remove T-bar (held on by two bolts which of course do not line-up with the inner door cut-outs!), take the rubber insert out and fit the T-bar on the glass with Sikaflex (if it will even fit without the rubber insert!), or the like, and bolt the T-bar back. All inside the door of course.

4) Leave as is.

Just an update.

Door Stay - this actually only had one broken bent-over flange, the other one was twisted and the threaded hole stripped. New one ordered from local Fiat stealer.

Window - Removed T-bar (held on by two bolts which did in fact line-up with top centre inner door cut-out). Found pinch points on rubber strip, eased these out, and fitted the T-bar onto the glass (inside the door). Rubber mallet  was used the get the T-bar back onto the glass and aligned for the fixing bolts. T-bar then re-attached and window now winds up and down (y). Rubber seals lubricated with Gummi Pflege. No Sikaflex needed, yet.

Once new door stay fitted, can put door back together again. Another quick win .

I like the (compulsory) use of the rolled eyes emoticon.

Why thank you kind sir .

New door stay picked-up from stealer yesterday, updated part number but appears to be the same apart from finishing on the metal. Door being put back together tomorow (y); may fit some nyloc nuts to back of door stay bolts to stop them shaking loose again.

Then onto the alternator .
