I got a new tappet to replace the one currently on my car. However even though the guy took my reg to find the part it seems to be wrong. Not only that but the ones in at the mo, and in fact the whole rocker gear looks different to that shown in the haynes manual.

- The tappets seem larger and have a different profile.
- There doesn’t appear to be anyway to set the pre load.

I've attached some pics to illustrate my point.

In the first one the tappet on the left is the new one.
The second is where the preload adjustment is shown in the haynes (i think)

Cheers Fingers
I was wondering whether I had some wierd never-seen-before set up.

Does anyone know about the pre-load setting as by the looks of it it doesnt seem adjustable?

The tappets is hydralic, the preload is set with the 10mm screw on the rocker gear.

The tappets to look a bit different with those little hole. apart from that i don't see a problem with it (again rallycinq can confirm).

That white circle is there, when u push the tappet up, it stays up there.

What happens when u try to put it into the rocker??

Also, did any other tappets fall out, when you took the rocker gear out?

Did the lock ring get damage when the tappet flew out?

Strange

The one on the right looks like it belongs the other way up inside the one on the left, but they shouldn't come in parts.

What part number do they think they have sold you?

Check it against the Eper.

Cheers

Yes, but later Sei 899 didn't have preload adjustment. They were purely hydraulic and used a different hydraulic tappet to those that did have a preload adjuster.

So, is the rocker gear the same ????? Or the different is on the tappets???

Does that also mean you don't need to adjust the tappets like the old 899 ??

Thanks

Different rockers with no adjuster and different tappets.

Correct.

I have fitted the old non hydraulic setup from a 903 Panda though.
Obviously it needs setting up properly but is far quieter now.
In theory it will need periodic adjustment, how often is yet to be seen, but I expect not that often.

Cheers for all the input guys.
Ive reasembled all the rocker gear with the old parts back in.
Having done this I'm not so sure it is the tappet though, as I moved mixed them up and its still the third arm from the left that has play in it. I think something else may have given. I've got a video of me working the play int he rocker gear by hand so I'll post it up when i'm home and maybe someone can shed soem light on the problem.
