I have just found the site and its been a great source of info I didn't know (y)

I am about to try to change the inner, passenger side CV boot as mine is split (n) . Is there a guide for this as I've not been able to find one so far.

I found a kit on ebay,
link
, Can someone confirm this is the correct part number.

Some of the other guides have made great reading, add my thanks to all those who put them together.

I've a 899S cinq

cheers

Additional:

Is this the boot that is the gearbox seal or do they both seal the 'box?

Just done all boots on my 1.1. Not sure how similar they are, but should all be the same ish.

Can't say if that boot is correct, but sounds it. Got mine from FIAT for around £7 a boot inc clips. You'll also need CV joint grease and plenty of latex gloves. I used Molybdum grease (sp).

Quick rundown on work needed -

-Jack up front of car. Remove wheel. Remove arch liner.

(now, i removed the driveshaft from the hub to do the outer joints, but i recokon you can do it all keeping the hub / shaft attached)

-Undo the suspension strut / hub bolts and.
-Remove clips from old boot
-wiggle hub to put shaft out of gearbox cups.
-Support shaft so it doesn't strain outer CV joint.
-Get under car and use circlip pliers to remove tripod thingy from end of shaft (after marking it's alignment on splines...)
-Remove boot, clean cups, clean tripod. (note how far old boot was on shaft)
-Put new boot and clips on shaft.
-Pack everything with plenty of grease
-Put tripod back into cup
-Bolt up suspension strut.
-Torque it up.
-Tighten clips on boot.
-Clean everything.
-Wheel / liner back on.

If you can't get the tripod off with the shaft still attached to the hub you'll have to remove the hubnut (32mm / very tight / staked), pop the steering ball joint and remove the shaft from the hub.

All in, a bit of a PITA job. Dirty, fiddley. Get it done before it destroys the CV joints though.

Oh, and haynes covers it all in detail.

AFAIK the 899cc retains the gearbox oil, so if its split, you need new oil, boot, clips (about £1 each, 10x better than cable ties).

You may have to remove the hub nut (£6) and break the lower arm ball joint to remove the driveshaft (new nylock nut, coouple of pence)

I'm not very good with 899cc's though, but theres my thought on it :D

Hey thanks for the info.

Ordered the part now and will update on the progress after the weekend.

Cheers again

Thanks for all the help. New cv boot installed and also gearbox filled with new oil.

Gear change now much better - bonus.

Took about an hour but we did take the drive shaft out of the hub as well as it was easier.
