And for future use of course. I bought the car about a month ago and had to get the locking nuts taken off as the prev owner didn't leave the lock key. So I want to take the wheel off and give them a proper clean I been told Halfords do a good one but I rather stay well away from that place

Why? Halfords is probably the best place for cleaning products. Especially with the 3 for 2 offer that they have. I use wonder wheels which gives a nice shine then a coat of wax to prevent dirt build up.

I've got two microfiber clothes in the garage which are massive (my dad loves cleaning his car lol) so I'll just "borrow" them and buckets and what not but I'll deffo hit Halfords up in the morning then

I still need to name her and I've had her about a month now!

The best wheel cleaner halfords sells is wonder wheels hot wheels, its non acid.
Your best bet is to go on detailing world and look on there.
But i would recommend this process...
Good acid free wheel cleaner
Iron/fallout remover
Tar remover
Clay
Good nano wheel sealant

Then future washes will just need a car shampoo and wash mitt as long as you wash regularly (once a week or every two)

avoid the halfords value brand its acid based, so is wonder wheel last I heard. you want one that is non acid based.

For once I'll agree with you Dave

Acid based cleaners are ok on sound alloys without any damage BUT any with damage to the clear coat eg curb marks micro cracks in the lacquer or chips also alloys with diamond cut finishes your asking for big trouble....

This is concentrated trade acid cleaner not diluted just to show what happens in 5 mins to unlacquered aluminium........

I favour autoglym custom wheel cleaner off the shelf

Heres the best thing i've ever used for cleaning wheels:

Non acidic, safe for most/all wheel types and gets most stuff off. Also as its sold as concentrate you can dilute to whatever you want. So for heavy soiled, 1:1, or less. I dilute at 1:5 or 1:10 for a weekly wash. But for you with white wheels you could go less if cleaning more regularly, like every day? ;)
