Going to give my Punto evo a clean tommorow and wondered what is the best way to clean the car. I heard a two bucket method?? and also does waxing make much different? Hopefully it will be nice and sunny and my shoes will not be soaked like last time!

Try this method:

1. Scroll down this page til you see "Forum Jump".
2. Check that it is set on "Car Care".
3. Click "Go".
4. Click on the first sticky post that you see, entitled Basic Guide: How to Clean your Car".
5. Read post #1.

Job done!

that guide is very good to get started

i highly recommend auto glym super resin polish apply with a damp micro fibre cloth or applicator pad and buff off with a dry micro fibre once you have done that really will make it shine and then you want a wax to protect it

Wheels, wash, dry, clay, polish, wax, windows, trim, tyres,

et voila

Like Robin said, read the sticky, it's very helpful :)

I would also recommend the AutoGlym Super Resin Polish followed up with the Extra Gloss Protection if you're keen. I have used Collinite before which is a hard wax type product, in fact I did the bonnet with Collinite today, but gosh is it hard work, the rest of the car got done with AutoGlym and tbh I think the AutoGlym panels look shinier and it was a lot less like hard work. Does need something like Bumper Care to get the polish off the black plastic bits though.

if your finding the colly hard to use your putting way too much on ;)

get some foam applicator pads eg: which can be had in halfords and the like

Meguiar's Soft Foam Applicator Pad: Amazon.co.uk: Car & Motorbike

wet the pad with water and wring out so its nice and damp

dab onto the wax in the pot (rather than wipe) then apply to the body panel so its hardly visible spread it out as thinly as you can

allow to dry / cure fully till you can do a clean swipe with your finger if its not dry it will roll up rather than dust (only way to experience this is to try it)

then buff with a decent clean microfibre (y)

I use a product called "Grease lightening" ive used it for two years now. no water and really easy to polish/wax your car and you only have wash your car a few times a year? brilliant product and it works .you can wash/polish a car in around ten minutes and it leaves a protective coat on the paintwork..once again a brilliant product.
