So today while I was doing some stuff in the engine bay, I noticed there is quite a lot of oil within the intake system

I tried cleaning as much out as possible but I would like to know why it is there and is there any way to stop it?

1.9 16v Mjet
I know there is the oil separator tank at the back of the engine which drains in to the sump, this then has a breather going to the air intake before the turbo. Directly below this is another pipe which goes to a box below the air filter which apparently just collects more oil?

Is it normal and should I just ignore it, or should I investigate it?
Could the separator tank drain be blocked?

Any advice is helpful

It's probably coming from the Turbo.
Most jtd's have this, my Alfa GT jtd as well, at 250.000mls, I just wipe it clean sometimes, and just ignore it for the rest..;)
If the EGR is still "functioning", it's also a big source for gunk and oil in the inlet system...

Fit a oil catch can. Put in the search box OIL CATCH CAN and it should direct you to some replies,

EGR has been "disabled permanently" as of today, so hopefully that'll help a bit then

I was thinking about adding a catch can inline, I'll have a read of what others have done

Also go on youtube and see how to make oil catch can more efficient at collecting oil and water vapour.
