Well, after 6 months of irritation, the rattling fault has now been resolved.

I've had it in to Fiat who fixed the top strut mounts/droplinks/bump stops - yet the rattle continued.

Yesterday, whilst I was in the engine bay filling up the what not's I closed the bonnet lid and noticed that "rattle" - wasn't the flaming rattle only the bonnet rubber bump stops on each side that had been screwed too tight so that there was play on the bonnet catch.

A couple of turns to loosen them, and et voila - no rattle.

I'm in the process of invoicing myself for labour charges and exploratory computer analysis.

GraemeB, are these the screws you used to loosen the rubber stops?

Ooh I see, it makes much more sense now! I am going to try that today and will see if my rattle is gone. If that happens you are going to get a lot of "thanks" mate, there's another topic with about 10 pages of complains about this rattle, especially when it rains.

Good Luck !

I cant describe the joy when I found that this was the cause - it's like driving a new car :)
