ok so recently brought a mk2 bravo sporting, guy i brought it from was a real hand pump, anyhow long story short its got problems, firstly heater only works on full power and cant seem to locate the heater resistor, secondly having overboost problems, did the usual map clean, egr clean blah blah, anyhow stripped off the turbo cover and vanes are free moving, theres a slight bit of play in turbo approx 1mm all round without oil pressure so im not overly bothered any how reason for this post is, maf hosuing bolts were jammed in and just twisted. after a big war i had to remove entire air filter housing upon doing so pulled off the air filter and you would not belive what i found..

3 dead shrivlled up mice. well 2 and 1 was in 3 bits. i nearly fell over myself when i realised what they was, how the F**k does someone not see them upon servicing the car they had clearly been in there some years, anyhow no shops were open so could not purchase new air filter or maf so poor car is still in hospital until tomoz or maybe monday

Years ago, working at a Rover dealer in Dorset, we stored our new cars in a compound in a local trading estate. Soon after delivery we would seal the air intake with duct tape to prevent the ingress of mice. However, the little blighters would still chew the fuel lines occasionally, preventing the car going anywhere. There were always cat footprints all over the cars - obviously too well fed.

If we didn't seal the air intake soon enough, mice would nest. Then when trying to start the car, it was likely to suck all the debris into the engine. Get the vacuum cleaner into the manifold. You may have to remove the manifold and suck out each cylinder in turn after turning it over until the inlet valve is open. Any 'fluff' pulled through may clog the cat, but I'd expect it to mostly burn up in time, but may partially restrict the cat. Good luck.
