not used my car since wednesday and today and up until earlier when we popped out.it seemed like it was running lumpy cos in 4th when doing 30 or any other speed for that matter it didnt seem to run smooth like it has done since day 1..Weird :s i thought it were fuel as i was running low so i put £20 in and didnt seem to do the trick..i checked my wheel bolts cos i not long changed the front brakes and still no avail..weird thing is i have no ecu light on the dash.stupid car

What engine is in the car?

Might be worth checking filters and putting in some redex injector cleaner treatment (Worked a treat on all my previous cars!) could just be the ol girl telling you, it wants some fresh lovin :).

Running on low fuel level in the tank is not generally the thing to do. I used to do exactly that seven years ago on my Brava SX and one day the engine revs just dropped out of the blue and the car stalled due to gunk in the fuel having gone into the fuel pump.

i went to a mates today in wigan so we checked it over there, the oil was low and 1 spark plug had oil on it. Cleaned it up and topped it up and it ran a bit better but still lumpy

Im wondering if that tensioner i replaced last month has maybe come lose? cos on way back with sat nav in the needle started bouncing.Soon as i got back into blackpool,i put the sat nav away and the needle was fine to which relates to the alternator being used under load. But could it be that as its been fine all this time since wednesday?
bafflednow.com lol

Check that same spark plug for oil again?

Wonder if you've got a problem somewhere.

Can blocked positive crank ventilation (PCV) valve cause this issue?

Hard to say what it could be.

i had some oil inside the cam cover so i think the seals never got done properly.(Ill do that once its running fine)The plugs are ok not black etc

hard to think myself,im usually ok with things like this but its confused me.Like i say i have no ecu light on the dash
its been fine since i replaced the front discs/pads on monday.Went to use it wednesday and its lumpy :bang:

If oil is causing the misfire it usually feels like the car severely splutters when holding the revs at constant speed. My cars gakett is knackered and two plugs were caked in oil.

will either be the rocker gaskett or if it was the plug closest to the oil filler then spillage often goes down there.

yes it does do that, splutters when holding revs.i.e driving at a constant speed. My foot shakes and you can see my 'smelly' shake lol
just 1 was caked in oil,the 4th from the left..strange just the one..

So you'd say its pretty much that thats causing it then? Its strange how its just kinda started spluttering overnight.Cos i dont know how long the plug has been covered in oil.

a mate suggested try a different MAF. So earlier on i swapped my MAF with 1 i had spare.Warmed the car up first by going round block, then went out for a blast (as its quiet this time of day) i was out about 20 mins and still made no difference.crusin at 30 in 4th and any speed for that matter i can still feel a slight judder.i.e my right foot shakes

Just wondering what else to try as i dont fancy changing spark plug seals as you have to take the head off. Also like i say my original engine was leaking in 3 plugs and that ran fine.
For all i know this leak in that 1 spark plug has been there ages (as i havnt checked since fitting engine) and it has ran fine since last week :bang:

The oil will seap round the plug and cover the electrode ;)
definately worth checking. use the top of a spray squirter bottle, plonk the straw in the plug well and squirt out the oil. then as a temp fix put some instant gaskett on inside of plug well around the join. take for a spin and see if it clears :)

Its only the rocker that needs to come off, gaskett kit is about £20 and comes with 5 rubber rings which seal the plug wells. Just done mine as was spluttering and missing

Hi bridges thanks for that (y) Thats exactly what i thought and have always known, its only the rocker that needs to come off as you get a kit with spark plug rings...Was a mate who said the head needs to come off to get to the spark plug gaskets...

Ill give it a temp fix for the time being see how i get on but i WILL buy a new gasket set as it obviously needs doing :)

Cheers
Mike

p.s someone said he guarantees itll be an injector?? Could 1 pack in overnight?

Use a multimeter to measure resistance of the injectors.

On the 1.6 theres a plug on the right side of the fuel rail with 5 pins. One of them is ground, the others are for each of the injectors. Each injector should have 11+ ohms of resistance. Anything below that and they are knackered. Anything below 13 ohms is on its way out. New they should be above 16 ohms afaik.

(This is all from memory, I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong :D)

each injector should have 11+ ohms but anything below 13 is on its way out?

cheers for that ill get it to a mate and borrow his multimeter and see if its those at fault.

Mike

I mean that an injector between 11 and 13 ohms could still be working but is going to break sooner than later. An injector below 11 ohms is most likely not performing as it should (if at all)

ah right ok cheers for that
never managed to get it to a garage yesterday,Hoping i get home early tomorrow (monday) so i can get them tested.

Mike

p.s been doing some searching and would an alternator not be the problem as im getting mixed answers. My wipers are slow, the needle bouncies and as you know its running a bit juddery :bang:
But first i will get the injectors tested asap tho as im finding it hard trying to get my hands on an alternator.

still not sorted it lol work, weather and not having time :(

just read back, and on a dry day ill seal the plug well thats leaking oil in it see how i get on.
Also still need alternator doing lol

has been a while but since other day when i had a misfire,i replaced the 1st spark plug and got the car running normal again.:)
So went out and replaced the other 4 yesterday and 'voila' the car runs spot on :)
went for a drive today to test car as it was dark and cold by time i finished swapping plugs over and cleaning the oil out of 1 port.the car now runs great, there is no 'foot shake' at 30 in 4th,i can happily sit at 25 in 4th and have no foot shake/wobble.Amazin what difference new plugs make (y)

but saying that,i gave it an oil and filter change during summer i should have really done the plugs too.
