Hi all,

Is the upper intake manifold on the 1.6 M5 engine sealed or is the top bit just a cover. Mine is missing 2 screws I found out today which suggests to me it wont be running quite right.

This is the part I mean

:)

Oh and another thing. How is the intake that runs across the front crossmember attached. The bolts are seized on yet the garage managed to take the intake off. Looks broken to me which I am really pissed about.

upper intake manifold is a single piece on the mk1 models (with metal manifold). i'm not sure about mk2 models, but i would assume it is also a single piece of plastic.

the intake can be pulled off without removing the bolts if you use a bit of force. the bolt simply spreads the clip so it sits tight in the hole, but the plastic is soft so you can pull it out without damaging the intake (which i had to do on my first bravo because my bolts were rusted solid)

Looks like that is what they have done. It now BLOODY rattles when engine running.

PS its the Mk2 and plastic upper. There are about 5-7 screws holding a top piece on with what looks like a type of gasket under it.

to solve the rattle i wrapped some insualting tape round the damaged clips and then forced them back into the holes.

as chance would have it, the day i sold that bravo the guy's dad lent on the intake and it came off. d'oh!! :bang:

his dad was very thorough, he even found the threaded bolt on the alternator.

Thats the sort of buyer you dont want :D

Thanks for the info Jug, I'll give that a go as I dont hold much hope of getting the garage to fix it.
