Blue & Me - Tech Info and questions and answers

I read a couple of days ago about changing the volume of the B&M lady. How do you change it permanently so it doesn't need adjusting each time?

You adjust the voice by increasing the volume of the External Audio setting. Unfortunately it also means that if you have traffic announcements turned on, these come blaring out at the same volume!

Blue & Me compatible device file system

Don't know if this has been posted before anywhere, but having just encountered the Blue & Me system for the first time I was having a lot of problems getting the MP3 USB Media player to recognise devices. It ignored my Zen Touch player completely and also failed to recognise a USB pen drive with MP3 files on it. So I started to try different file systems to see if anything worked. The 1Gb pen drive was originally formatted for use with Linux, using the ext3 file system. I reformatted this to Windows NTFS, but that failed also. Then I tried Windows FAT32 and it worked. So it looks as if Blue & Me is fairly picky about what file system it likes. What would be helpful would be for Fiat/Microsoft to publish a bit more technical detail about just which file systems Blue & Me supports.

Hi there, can anyone help me with Blue&me and iPod??

I got a new iPod at Xmas, but can't seem to get the car the see all my music - is there an easy way? Every time I connect it to the USB in the glove box it only sees a fraction of the stuff I want to play.

Cheers!!

Seonaid

Had problems playing from my iPod. Had changed all music to MP3 and would not play then realised as I had formatted iPod in a mac had to reformat on a PC.

My songs now play and I can sync music from my mac.

You must make sure:

1. iPod is pc formatted

2. All music is MP3 not aac. You can covert them on iTunes

Re: Blue & Me compatible device file system

they do..........if you looked at their website.

I've been on the Fiat web site already. As far as I've been able to establish, the information on Blue & Me is pretty much a repeat of what appears in the manual. There are no technical details regarding which file systems are recognised. All they list are the music file types, e.g. MP3, WAV, etc.

Re: Blue & Me compatible device file system

The Windows logo on the steering wheel and USB port suggests that the USB stick uses a Windows filing system and not a Linux one. NTFS is an advanced filing system, well beyond the scope and needs of a car. Unless yours is called KITT. B&M (or Windows CE) reads FAT16 or FAT32 media only. FAT32 is best as it supports long file names and >2Gb capacities.

Update on my T-Mobile MDA Touch with Blue&Me:

Dial from the car kit: Yes
Reject incoming call: Yes
Redial: Yes
User defined ring tone (kept from the phone): No
Network provider name: Yes
Conference call: No idea, haven't tried it.
Call waiting (second incoming call): Yes
Caller ID as stored in the phonebook: Yes
Contacts download one by one by selection: Haven't tried it.
Contacts download fully automatic: Yes
Transfer the audio out to your phone (private call): Yes
Muting (Local privacy): Yes
SMS reader: No

Has anyone managed to get a Windows Mobile phone working as an MP3 player through the USB socket? I've got my HTC Touch Cruise working ok with B&M, but it won't recognise it as a music source when I plug it in, even though I have MP3 files stored on it.

Yep. That's pretty much where I'd got to. But I repeat the point that it would be helpful if Fiat put this info in the manual and on their web site, as it seems to be confusing a lot of non-technical people.

It would also be useful if this forum could compile a list of those MP3 players known to work/not work with the B&M system, similar to the list that has been created for mobile phones.

Re: Blue & Me compatible device file system

Hi there,
I bought my new Grande Punto in October and have no problems with Blue&Me and my phone, but I can't seem to get to grips with my iPod! Can anyone help me with a quick start guide to get Blue&me to read my iPod, as it only seems to read a few of the files and I am not sure if I should format it all to a certain type of file to play in the car!
Help!!!

Have you try this application (cardexport2 from softick.com) to turn your phone into a usb mass storage ?

Can you test it and tell us if it works ?
Also, can you tell us if the HTC is in charge when plugged onto the usb port of your car ?

Thanks

In my 500, I plug my USB memory stick into the B&M USB slot. However I find that about half the songs I've put onto the memory stick just don't play - as in when I'm scrolling they just don't show up

Is this due to the system? Or is it a problem with the formatting of the files? They are all in .mp3 so I don't see why this should be a problem

Thanks in advance

Yes, the all Windows Mobile phones with USB (mini, micro) can be charged via the Blue&Me USB port.
Great, so my pocketpc gps will serve for gps and for mp3 at the same time !! with only one stuff.

Wait for my bravo now, until 1 1/2 month, soooo long !!

i am using a flash-memory card ( kingstone 4 gb ) as mp3 player via usb port ( media player). also i can cherge my imate ppc .

But ; my nokia 9300 can not read sms.

Vesta: I'm also having a similar problem to you, my ipod will only play one song...over and over again. I have converted all the files so they are compatible with to system, it was working fine from when i got the car in November, until about a week ago whn it just stopped working, and now its driving me mad!!

Ouch :(

Yep it's so frustrating having such a good Blue & Me media system when I can't even work out how to use it  /techno illiterate

:p

I assume you have tried:

1. Press the Windows button and say 'loop off.' For some reason mine occ plays same song until I have to do this again.

2. If wont recognize anything and unplugged and plugged in the usb again, try getting any usb flash drive. Plug it in, disconnect it and try your iPod again. Good luck!!

As a mac man I am hoping Blue&Me gets an update soon to:

1. Properly support iPods

2. Use text reader with iPhone

Blue&Me Nav - works as a GPS Bluetooth host!

I just discovered that my Blue&Me Nav equipped Bravo not only works perfectly with my new HTC Touch Dual Windows Mobile phone, but also sends back GPS signals! So, there is no need for external GPS BT 'mouse' to enable navigation with PocketPC [or other cell phones - you can use excellent Wayfinder on almost any phone, or TomTom on Symbian phones]. What's more - you get very efficient solution because Blue&Me Nav GPS antenna is roof mounted and always fixed, so you start getting position instantly.

This is really nice.

Technical stuff:
After pairing with a car you will see 'Blue&Me' entry in Bluetooth control panel with two services - 'handsfree' and 'serial port'. You just have to assign virtual COM port number to Blue&Me serial port (e.g. COM4), hit 'OK' and then enter this port in settings panel of navigation software of your choice. That's all. You'll hear car saying 'Bluetooth device connected'.

Thank you Microsoft/Fiat!

I have exactly the same issue... Looping on one track - will try the "loop off" command today to see if that helps.
