Hi guys

I'm new here so please be gentile...

Today I was given an 06 GP 1.9 mjet sporting as a company car, I have to say I'm well chuffed with it. it's one hell of an upgrade from the GP 1.2 active I have up until today :)

Just one problem with it, the blue and me. It's just not working.. like at all. I press the button on the steering wheel and nothing happens. Also the mileage is flashing. Would this be anything related? My boss is taking it to a alfa and fiat specialist on Friday to get the mileage flashing sorted out... Can I assume fixing one will fix the other or should I tell him have a looking into it or is there a fix to get blue&me working in the mean time?

Thanks for your time

I've had the same problem for 4 weeks since having to push-start my car.

Pressing the controls does nothing, it doesnt recognise an iPod or anything. I've disconnected the battery, tried to re-install Blue&Me on a USB stick, nothing works.

I've searched and searched and I cant find anything to help on these forums or google, I'd appreciate if you could let me know how it got on in the garage :)

If your mileage is flashing then in all likelyhood you need whats called "Proxy Allignment"

This is carried out using Examiner (Theres two other devices that can do it that ive seen) and allows the ECU to re-learn which other control units are present in the car.

Ramrod -First of all though before shelling out any money I would try unhooking the battery -ve terminal for half an hour as this resolves most Blue & Me issues.

You'll loose the stored date & time so dont forget to read up in your manual on how to restore this.

DeeBeePee - Why did your car need a push start first of all? Also when you press the windows key do you hear a beep?

thank you for your reply alexh and at least I'm not the only one thanks deebeepee for putting my mind to rest.

As it's a company car sending it too the garage wont cost me anything and as it has to go in anyway to have the tracking done I'll leave it till after Friday before worrying too much. the other problem I come across today was the fuel gauge is showing half full even though I just filled it to the brim at the pumps, so I'm hoping this "Proxy Allignment" will sort all my problems out.

If I do disconnect the battery will I need the code for my radio? as I don't have the code... Is there a way to find it out or have I got to ask my boss if he has it? Also am I just disconnecting the battery or just one lead?

Thanks for any advise

R@M

You wont need a radio code if you remove the battery and it's just the negative terminal to remove.

There should be a spring clip, watch out as they can be quite tight and may bite :)

After 30 or so minutes pop it back on, turn the key to the position that allows electrics to be on and then re-set your date.

After the dates ok, try B&M :)

Is it a Fiat/Alfa dealer rather than a specialist who will look at the car? as it more than likely needs hooking up to the Examiner device. An independant specialist may not have one as there is a huge cost (along with on-costs) associated with the purchase.

Thanks for the response guys,

I had to push start it not long ago as I left some accessories in the car plugged in and the battery dropped and wouldnt turn the starter motor over, couldnt get it to jump start so push started it in stead and it came on ok, this has only started happening since then.
The windows button is completely dead, no beep no nothing. No "Voice" on the radio display or anything, its as if I'm not pushing the button.

I've tried downloading a re-installing blue&me on the USB stick but nothings recognised in the drive.

I think the only option for me is going to be a visit to Fiat Darlington :-(

You are not supposed to do that in a modern car. It can lead to fuel entering the catalytic converter, damaging it. It will possibly fail an MOT emissions test.

Ring your break down cover if the battery goes flat.

Sounds like a broken convergence unit (computer that drives B&M) its covered under 2nd year warranty but not third. I was quoted in the region of £450 to have this replaced by a dealer.

Ok so this is where I'm at...

got the car back today after it's proxy Allignment... I got in and hurriedly pressed the button... it flashed up "NO ENGLISH"... bugger!

So when I got home I checked a very helpful forum I know (cough cough... this one) and tried the suggested blue&me update... when I do this is what the dash says...

UPDATING... (for about 2 mins)
RESTARTING... (for about 30 secs)
INSTALLING (for about 1-2 mins)
RESTARTING... (for about 30 secs)
INSTALLING (just for a flash)
USB ERROR: 10 (eff and indeed Jeff)

The USB stick is formatted to FAT32 and all instructions followed form fiat website. Anyone had this before or got any ideas?

Thanks

sorry for the double post...But I sorted it.
Just installed the language files from the fiat website and It lives!! Still failing on the update but it lives...

I'm gonna buy a brand new 2gb USB drive tomorrow and try the update on there but for now just having the media player is a bonus

Thanks

My blue and me completely failed, I did as overs have done, disconnected the negative terminal. left it 10 minutes, reconnected and it sorted it.

God it seems like we're just mirroring each others problems!

I had the car in Fiat/Alfa Specialist Teesside yesterday, they seemed to know exactly what they were talking about RE Blue&Me, which is more than I can say for the actual Fiat dealer who just looked blank at me and said they dont deal with them!

He did a proxy realligment to reset the flashing milage, but said that he couldnt get the Blue&Me system to work and it was still not recognising my Ipod in the USB slot. He managed to get the steering controls to respond now, they come up with "No English" as opposed to no response before. He said that when I've push started it I may have overloaded the convergence unit, and to try re-installing it with the flash drive; otherwise it'll be a new convergence unit.

Low and behold, when I get the car home and try my Ipod on the off chance, nothing happens, because the battery was dead!! USB sticks are recognised!!! I HAVE POWER!!!

Tried re-installing Blue&Me on the drive I keep in the house for it, "updating" for about 5 minutes, then "USB Error 10" Tried in the other USB port, "Config error" now. Im hoping that I just need to reformat the drive and download the files again. I'll let you know how it goes.

Ohh, and, once my Ipod was charged, it plays the music fine and I can skip songs, I just cant use the windows or menu buttons to switch albums.

Still got the same problem, USB Error 10 and then Config Error.

Tried a different USB stick, same problem.

Im going to try and find an older version of blue&me and install that

Let me know how you get on with an older version as I still can't update.

Thanks

Looking back, its all making sense!

I was, and I assume you are too, trying to re-install the whole Blue&Me system because we're geting the "No English" messege.

We're getting the Config Error/USB 10 Error because the Blue&Me is rejecting the update because the car doesnt need it.

I was having trouble finding an older version of B&M, but I remembered a site I visited last year, all it has is the Language pack, so to make the car speak french or whatever.

http://www.fiat.com/cgi-bin/pbrand....d&Failed_Page=/FIAT_COM/showroom/showroom.jsp

I just downloaded the English pack, put it onto my old usb stick, freshly formatted as FAT32 and installed it in the car.

This time it comes up with "Updating Lang"

BINGO!

She talks to me again!

I should point out though, I had to do it twice before it took.....

Hope this works for you!

Thanks all for the information!

Tonight as I was driving along (which I thought was weird) I stopped being able to skip tracks and the windows button no longer beeped but the volume control and radio buttons worked fine, and the media player kept going. I was finding it very frustrating not being able to skip tracks but was happy enough that it could still read my USB stick.

After reading things like it not being covered under third year warranty and stuff I was getting a bit worried but thought I'd try the disconnecting the battery trick, which worked like a charm. :D

I do have one question, where did this idea that it needs to be disconnected for 30 minutes come from? I don't know any electrical device that takes that long to discharge. I left mine for maybe 1 minute and that's all it needed.

My Blue&Me has stopped working also.

I've tried disconnecting the battery as other have suggested but still doesn't work.

The garage has quoted something like £420 for replacing the Blue&Me ECU. However this a bit of a rip off! My car is a 2013 plate, just 2.5 years old. Surely this should have been covered by warranty.

Can anyone offer any advice/help? How can I kick up a fuss with and get this fixed for free under warranty?

timmay,

the 3rd year warranty should help here.., but of course your car is NOW out of Warranty,:(

FIAT's "Examiner" software is the standard fix.., however
MultiECUScan can now do the Proxy Alignments, and MOST things that Examiner can - for a fraction of the price..

loaded onto your laptop / device, a set of cables and a little knowledge.
