Hi all.

the little fella is starting with a few gremlins!

When you start the car it starts fine but tickover is a little lumpy until reved. If you go to move off without letting it settle down the car will stall. mainly when reversing?

Now and then the is an idle problem when pulling up to lights etc, it will also stall but not all the time.

the car is standard apart from a K&N induction kit which has been fitted for year with no problems.

thanks

hi.

yes the car has been serviced every 3000 miles. it is due a cam belt but i havent got round to getting it done yet.

yes iam fine on the tools iam a ships engineer, but not to clued up on petrol cars.

thanks

Great!

Firstly there are some things to clean;

1. Throttle body - this can be done in situ with a can of carb cleaner and a toothbrush.

2. Idle control valve - there are a couple of screws to remove, then again clean with carb cleaner and a toothbrush.

If the above two do not make a difference we will move on to cleaning the MAF.

regards to the idle control valve. is this a diapham? will i need to order a gasket or will sealer be enough?

thanks

It is an actuator type with no diaphragm. To reseal you can use a thin bead of silicone sealer.

If you use the 'search' button at the top of the forum it will return various threads about cleaning and locating it etc.

sorted, but now seams to idle a little high, around 1100- 1200 rpm???

oh dear!!! and the fix is????
You could try to remove battery for a min or two. It also resets actuator preset position after a few minutes of running (Thats why after removing the battery it runs a bit uneven at first).

Yes, or the throttle reset...

Turn ignition key to MAR position for 90 secs

Turn key to OFF position for 90 secs

Start car and leave to Idle for 5 mins.
